Hi Scarlet, I live in Preston! What type of riding do you do ? I'm a mountain biker predominantly.
Its also worth looking on www.shecycles.com as there are a few North West girls on there.
Crazy Canuck, Preston is about 15 miles from Blackpool and is indeed near lots of fantastic MTBing (and road riding as well).
Have just changed from hybrid to road bike as I plan to do JOGLE august next year, but I dont seriously cycle yet am just a good weather cyclist!!!!
I have been on and off road but not mountain biked really
Would love to be able to do both but i am way to fat yet to do anything much uphill.
I did train to do the nile cycle 2 years ago and was quite ok then but have lost it a bit since.
I would like to do some group cyclign to get the miles in and its so much better to cycle and chat... althought i do appreciate some people dont want to chat ......... i sometimes cant stop (ha ha )
I am going to get in touch with our local CTC as I have just joined

thanks for the vote of confidence crazycanuk, i notice that we are both scorpions and love roger taylor!!!! Queen too?
i live about 22 miles from Blackpool and cycling there is great also another little coastal town called southport which is a mainly flat cycle ride.
There are loads of fantastic rides around Lancashire and some rather big hills too, I once (and i stress once!!) went from my house up up up towards a place called Rivington and up up up towards where our TV masts are situated (Winter Hill) the whole ride was about 33 miles and i swear it was all uphill even coming home, PHEW![]()
I called in at a local pub for a drink but then chickened out when all heads turned to look at my red face and licra clad butt....... so ended up slurping all my water !!!!!
If you ever have the chance then come to Uk and cycle ....

I ride round Rivington (offroad) a lot and your right there are some big (and steep) hills! Its a lovely area considering its so close to Bolton etc, it feels a million miles away from it when your up there. The thing about the masts is you can see them for miles and when you approach them they never seem to get any nearer.
There are a couple of road cycling clubs round Preston as its a big cycling area and I think at least one of them caters for beginners. When I used to live in Fulwood there was a regular CTC meet at the Royal Bank of Scotland on Garstang Road on a Sunday morning. It was before I really cycled but I do remember reguarly seeing a lot of bikes and flouro yellow jackets and I think it is still happening. I did have the information on them somewhere, I can dig it out.
I wish I lived in the north west. Does that count? Unfortunately I'm stuck down here in Essex for another year. Some nice leisurely riding areas around here though if you ever find yourself on this end of the country. Generally flat with lots of nice pubs and tea shops to stop at......
Hi all thanks for the posts, havent replied before as I have been to Scotland with my grandchildren for the weekend. (no cycling they area only 3 and 5)
I need to get myself going again real soon.
