Chatting to one of my colleagues today (a rather big chap, well over 6ft and 23 stone in weight) I remarked that I wished I could get my equally big hubby on a bike. Imagine my surprise when my colleague said he was looking for a good home for one of his bikes as he's bought a new one. It is designed to cope with over 20st as he had it made for him. All it needs is a new front wheel and it's free to good home![]()
Hubby popped into the office (we work for the same firm) so I asked him. He said, "Well, I suppose, umm, (reluctant) yes" so we've just to arrange to pick it up and make the repair.
That's the easy part. The hard part is now going to be to actually get him to ride it.
Still.
Stage One. Gotcha!!!! (got a bike now - no excuse heh-heh).
Stage Two. Watch this space![]()

Yes. It would be really nice to go cycling as a family - me, hubby and son. Son comes with me for a lot of runs now depending on how well he feels. As he is a renal dialysis patient some days he feels better than others. He's not really feeling too good today and it's been raining so looks like we'll be having a night off. We went for quite a run yesterday, all uphill on the way back and I think maybe it was too much for him as he's got an extra day to go at the weekend before he dialyses again (tomorrow).
Hubby had a major heart attack three years ago and it was one of the things the doctors suggested he do - take up cycling. I know since I've been cycling I feel so much healthier - and I sleep better at nights. I'm sure that after the initial jelly legs etc. hubby will feel the benefits too.

We have a non-biker in the family. To enhance her experience (and ours, she's VERY vocal when she's not pleased) we changed the rides to have destinations to parks or a small treat. This has helped immensely. So we can't go as far or fast as we'd like when she's along, at least she isn't sitting on the side of the road screaming her lungs out about the torture of the whole thing (yes, true story, 5 mile ride) and we're all enjoying (or as close as she'll ever get to enjoying anything on a bike) longer rides, too.![]()
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
Having a destination can make all the difference. Good idea!
And congrats on the new bike, and good luck with your husband!
“Hey, clearly failure doesn’t deter me!”
What kind of bike? When do we get to see pics? And do we get to help name THIS one too??![]()

If it is/was another Raleigh we could say "Hello Dollie!"
Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches
No idea what kind of bike it is yet as I only see the chap who has it briefly when he comes into the office. Seemingly he's got two the same so he said we could use one for spare parts - in other words he's given us the two bikes. Says now he's bought a new bike he needs the space. Doesn't want anything for them either. I don't think they're Raleighs.

Tell him that Mr. Silver said "Be a man and ride with your wife!" (wink! wink!)
Just make sure he has good shorts, or the pain in the b*** will kill any interest in future rides! If his commitment is weak, then nothing will kill it like a pain in the b***
