Is anyone else hungry all the time?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Ever since I've started biking and now, spinning too, I seem to be hungry all the time.

I didn't used to eat bfast..now I'm hungry in the am. Actually, I often would skip lunch too.. (that was a work thing) and now I'm eating lunch.

I basically now eat three meals and then am still hungry between. Should I feed the hunger? I try to snack healthy but this eating all the time is surprising.

Hey Roguedog, it seems to be a season-change thing for you:

This being said, snacking is okay, as long as you do it with a purpose!

I have three two relatively big meals (breakfast and dinner), one lighter meal and at least two snacks every day. That's not abnormal...

I eat pretty much all day long, everyday. They don't call me the Human Garbage Disposal for nothing. I even have people at work trained to bring in extra food for me.

I've been carrying a big bag of carrot sticks and snap peas with me and didn't expect I would want to eat them but I can sit there and crunch on them endlessly. It fills the void, tastes ok, and add hardly any calories... I also carry those 100 calorie snack packs with me when I am really craving some sweet or salty carbs. But only one pack or I'll eat whatever I have...

I noticed a marked increase in my hunger when I first started cycling last year. I felt like I ate ALL the time. I called it "feeding the beast." As my miles have started to increase this year, I find myself being hungry much of the time again. I'm incorporating some snacks into my routine but I'm trying to keep it healthy. I would note that thirst can sometimes translate to hunger so be sure that you're watching your fluid consumption, too.

Yesterday I noticed that despite eating my usual pre-ride meal, I was hungry on the bike almost immediately. I was rather frustrated in that I ate a pretty big dinner the night before too, and don't know what more I can do. I find it hard to eat a lot in the morning--it makes me kind of nauseous. It's not bad right now since our club rides start at 10, but as they get earlier and earlier, I think it's going to be hard to wolf down more than the bare minimum.

    feelin hungry

I was finding i was hungry all the time, but when i turned my snacks into mini meals, i was feeling better. that means not eating single foods, (like just an apple), but a carb, a protein and a fat every time. So yogurt with berries and cereal for me.

I found that helped a lot. also, i wasn't drinking enough water so i put a water bottle every where i "hang out" like by my desk, in my car and by the TV.

frosted shredded wheat for me! I know the frosted part isn't that good for you but it really helps curb the stomach. And it is fiber too. But yes i tend to be famished from biking as well. I recommend some kind of protien as well. Peanut butter on sproited grain is always good. As long as it's not skippy (to much sugar) But if that is what you like go for it. top it off with some carrots. It's about what you eat to feed the monster.

I eat at least 6-8 times a day.

I can't imagine only 3 meals a day... and SKIPPING breakfast or lunch? Never.

Although, with all the running I do along with the biking... I can eat more and not gain weight. When I was only cycling, it was a bit harder to keep my weight down.

You should aim for a protein-based breakfast, then every two hours you should be eating to keep your 'engine' humming. I know that sounds a lot, but I'm talking about an apple or banana, cup of yogurt, etc. Your body is burning up its stores of glycogen (carbs) from cycling more and you need to replace it, that's why you feel hungry. I usually have two eggs in the morning, then a piece of fruit two hours later, followed by lunch where I'll eat more complex carbs such as a whole wheat bagel with turkey, and some yogurt (more protein to help your spinning muscles). Two hours to three hours later, I'll eat a protein bar or a handful of raisens. Maybe some veggies. Then comes dinner which is going to have protein again, like chicken, and a salad, or baked potato, glass of wine . Last but not least, I do like something sweet, so maybe a piece of dark chocolate or a small bowl of ice cream before 8:00 or 9:00. The idea is not to eat too much junk or sugary stuff, but keep the engine running with complex carbs and protein with most of your meals. On days I'm cycling, either mountain or road, I'll load up a bit more with oatmeal and raisens or nuts before a ride too. I swear by oatmeal!

    ALL THE TIME.

Haven't been exercising hard in the past 2 weeks so a bit less. I ate like a horse (or did I actuall EAT A HORSE??!! ) before.

Also, during cycling holidays I did not eat so much so exercise suppresses it a bit.

    ME TOO!

Maybe it's just the time of year (student, last week of school, 8-jillion projects due), but I'm just exasparated with my hunger. YES I have started training harder in running, riding (horse) and cycling, but this is just irrational: I'm gaining weight like nothing else--the nurse weighed me at my last physical and I just about fainted at the number.

I recently found out I'm allergic to wheat gluten. I thought cutting that out would help me lose some weight. Since then I've just been more hungry, and lord if I know why.

I only eat healthy foods... rice cakes (plain) with (real) peanut-butter and yogourt for snacks, fish for dinner, veggie/egg sandwich for lunch, apples/pears/oranges/carrots when I'm feeling hungry for no reason, and the odd piece of dark chocolate if I'm really craving it.

I don't eat a -lot- to begin with, but fast metabolism isn't in my genes, and if I'm still gaining, obviously it's still too much. Gah!

Glad to know I'm not the only one confused and frustrated!

Yesterday I rode my first ride of the season - 23 miles. I was hungry all afternoon. I wasn't prepared when I got home so I ended up eating anything that was there. I usually try to have something ready to eat for when I get home. I find that if I eat a decent meal after riding, the hunger isn't as bad.
    There's no place like home!
