28 Feb rides and BIG storms in Canberra

OMG... what a ride this morning. Headed off for my normal ride to uni. We did have a few big thunderstorms last night, so I expected some debris on the paths. Everything was fine til i got about 4km from uni and to our "older" suburbs. What a mess, bits of tree everywhere, could hardly see the path in some places... but guess what? it got worse.

When i got to the road (barry drive for those of you who know canberra) at the uni, the road into the uni was shut! By now i had walked about 1/2 km cos of the 3 or 4 inch piles of hail all over the place... wasnt going to ride through those with skinny tyres

Anyway, the road into the uni was closed (first time i've ever seen that) and there was flooding and one car up to it's bonnet in water, another had sort of crashed off the road. More massive piles of hail everywhere. The place looked like a war-zone!

I still had to walk, just so much mess i couldnt ride. Got to my building ... still in shock and spoke to the other early starter. Apparently 60 buildings in the uni were damaged overnight and they made an announcement on the news this morning that the campus is closed and not to come in

Guess i should listen to the news instead of just rolling out of bed, putting on my bike clothes and heading off

Anyway, security are sending people home... not that there are many here. But i've decided to stay. The showers worked (even though the bathroom floor was flooded), the electricity is on so i could make my smoothie and the computer is working so i can tell my TE sisters about my ultra exciting morning. So it's all good. Hopefully with lots of people absent it will be quiet and i'll get a lot of writing done

This place is a mess!!! I've never seen anything like it.

Hoping for a less eventful ride home

What's going on with the weather in Australia??? When are we going to get rain that actually helps the farmers???

I'd send you sunshine but it's overcast

    Take care

    No storms

Nice short afternoon ride. But I had my first flat of the season. Goathead, of course!

    we've all been sent home

apparently they need to investigate all the damage. Gotta say i was a little concerned that the flooding in the bathroom seemed to be coming from the light socket

Sorry to hear about all the damage. I hope things will be back to normal for you soon. I bet you will remember that ride for awhile.

No riding here today its snowing. Cant complain its only the second time we have had snow this year. So let is snow, let it snow, let it snow.
