Yeah, having ridden that section on the coast, I was annoyed with Phil and Paul saying it wasn't safe.

Well , I've got Brevet #2 in the books.
I need to find a new job so I can move up here! It's too pretty.
Started early at 6:30 - Spoke a little bit with Homey. He lives up here. We pedaled in to San Luis Obipso. I remember that one section of road was imprinted with "built by te W.PA. - 1938, Unfortunately I missed taking a picture.
I also missed the First control. On brevets, you are given a Card, which have to have stamped at all controls to get official credit.
We rode out of SLO and went back to Morro Bay. On the way there, I thought I saw my first California Poppy, more on this later. We then got back on Highway 1 - which is actually a freeway. It wasn't as bad as it sounds. We got off Highway 1 to go through Cayucos. Saw more of the Flowers.
We then pedaled through California Smallest Town - Harmony, Population 18. We had to climb a hill in Cambria, and I stopped in San Simeon and had an Odawalla Bar. I wasn't sure about riding on PCH. The Coverage on Versus when the Tour of California did the stage here was "Cyclists - Don't do this road! The Crazy Drivers will run you over!" Shame on you Phil, Paul, and Bob! Nice shoulder until we got to the climb to The Ragged Point inn, and even then, the Drivers were courteous.
I had a turkey Sandwich at the Ragged point. I think I got penalized for eating healthy. Most People were having Burgers and Fries. It took me forty minutes, it should have taken me twenty. Most controls are at restaurant or stores (the first was at a coffee shop) and I usually like to patronize them to show my appreciation for putting with us Psych cyclists. I made it back through Cambira and Harmony and Arrived at Cayucos at 4. Lots better than 6:30. Socialized with the gentleman running the control and some other riders. Talked about the flowers- they though they weren't Poppies - Darn!

I think that's I saw. I'll upload some photo tonight when I get home. It rained overnight here.
It was rainy and blustery here yesterday. Did an hour on the trainer. Avg - 15.4. Forcast says we're supposed to have rain for 10 more days.![]()
I did about 6-8 miles on the mountain bike. That took about 1.5-2 hours since I am complete newbie. Most of it was a fire road, but we tried a little of the "real" trail. I took a spill and have battle scars to show for it!![]()

I rode with the TNT group Saturday. Second training week with Team in Training; getting ready for the Century Ride in May.
It was rainy, wet, windy and road grime was our friend; but I was grateful that is was not too cold. Mid 60's; mild and even a bit humid.
I did not mind the rain so much but we did go over a bridge and had to ride part of the way in between the road turtles and quite a bit of debris. That small space between the turtles made this newbie quite nervous! But hey! I did it! And I did not fall or get a flat! Yippee!![]()
We completed 25.5 miles; most of it in the rain. Today we were reading the paper and found that wind gusts yesterday were running between 20-30 mph! Yikes! No wonder I was so tired. But hey, I slept great last night!
I really wish our training ride was today...it is totally perfect outside! Blue skies, sunny and mild. Eh, wouldn't you know it? Well, we learned how to ride in the rain anyway.![]()
You all have a good week!
I just keep telling myself..."I am the Tortise; slow and steady finishes the race." I am the Tortise, coo coo ca choo.![]()
Did a little over 8 miles. Very disappointing, since I'm going to attempt 30 in Bastrop (my very own Mont Ventoux) next weekend. Unfortunately, I've been getting over the flu and was wheezing up hills that I would normally be okay on. I hate this, I'm well enough to work, but not well enough to be on the bike. Very frustrating. I will be punishing myself by working on the trainer all week.![]()

Fredwina, your bike is really cool looking!
Hey you guys, just so that you all know, today is Sunday the 25th of February,
this is the ride thread for yesterday (and Fredwina knows it)
Nice photos of California Poppies! we have them in my yard. If i'm not careful, they take over EVERYTHING! but they are beautiful.
I had a very nice quick 25 mile ride in the morning before BF woke up. Got home to find him half asleep infront of the coffee maker. Made me feel even more fresh and fit that I was already up and had done a two hour bike ride before 11 am. I'm not normally a morning person. But I'm practicin getting up to ride early. I know come the AidsRide in June I'll need to be up and on the bike by 7 if I am to have any hope of getting up all those gigantic hills before the route closes for the day.
