    February 22 Rides

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Started out 70 degrees and was 78 when I got home. I need to start riding earlier, because by the time I got home I was hot and my face red as a beet.

10.2 miles, (2.4 of them green, doing the post office run). The first 2/3 of the ride was fun and easy, but toward the end I was more tired and (more importantly) HOT -- but I pushed on. (To break ten miles I had to circle some in my neighborhood when it would have been so easy to just end the ride -- I passed by my house twice before finally stopping.)

Not a long ride by normal standards, but for me, pretty good!

    Next?

“Hey, clearly failure doesn’t deter me!”

OK, this isn't a ride, but today for the first time in almost a month, I was able to exercise without feeling sick. Went to the gym and warmed up for 20 minutes on the treadmill, 4mph at a 5% incline, and then took a Centergy class. It's a cross between yoga and Pilates, more yoga-like. The best thing was, that someone I have known for many years told me that during the class she was watching me to learn how to do yoga! I guess I have to thank Mr. Cyclo-Zen, Graeme Street, because the only yoga I have done is at home, on the winter training dvds.
Saw a few riders while I was out today. It's making me a little itchy to get out there, but the melting ice on the sides of the roads is keeping those feelings in check. It's supposed to snow a bit tonight, so I am hoping for at least one or two more chances to use the x country skis and snow shoes.

Good job Robyn and Pooks! I did six miles today. It was windy. Pooks, my face gets really red when I exercise. When I used to run people would stop and ask me if I was okay. I must have looked like I was going to kill over or something.

    Finally warm in Missouri!

I did 16 miles today. All flat, but the gusting wind counts as a hill, right? And boy can I tell I haven't been biking in awhile. Funny how time off the bike makes its presence known! This girl feels like she is starting from scratch. Even the rear needs to be re-trained... That saddle doesn't feel like it used to. But who cares! It was a beautiful day, and the ride was well worth the pain. Three cheers for spring!

    Yay pooks and robin!!!

I got out for the commute with the 21-30 mph winds. Nice to have just a teeny bit of residual ice, unlike yesterday's adventures at every corner (it got to 40 in the day, then went to 25 at night, and that 14 inches of snow redistributed itself very slickly).

It was the trainer yet again tonight. Did 45 minutes at 17.4 mph.

Finally back on my back for my grocery store rides. Plus rode to Yoga this morning (the 23rd). So, short 2 - 6 mile rides each day for last 3 days.

Hope to do a longer ride out in the country on my Volpe within the next few days. Looks like rain (which we still need) and very windy. Once the weather is more cooperative, out I go.

Since I haven't been riding much the last few months, I have been jogging regularly since early December and doing very intensive hot Yoga class at least once a week. Think my aerobic capacity is still in good shape and ready for some long rides.

Riding in 27-35 temps was my coldest riding experience ever. I rode 16 miles and was comfortable. Managing runny nose with balacava covering nose and mouth was a feat with my thick gloves on. Shifting gears required looking at gear rings to assure drive train was ok since I couldn't hear much. It was wonderful riding outside though compared to my indool riding experiences.
