    Swim Golf

I read this interesting stuff on cruciblefitness*, and they talk about Swim Golf.

The score is: seconds per 50m + number of strokes per 50.
He writes you should focus mostly on technique before you reach 85 instead of piling on thousands of yards of bad swimming.

    Mine was 93 (50sec&43 strokes)
(I notice I forgot to do it several times to average)

    - what's yours?

    * the article is a bit messed up so don't get confused

That is very interesting. I will have to try it next time I am in the pool. I can swim 50 yards in about 45 over the course of a set, and my guess for the stroke count would be about 36 from when I have done that exercise before. I will do it next week when I am in the pool and post my score.

Alpine, we usually do it in my master's class as every 'cycle' of strokes, that is every time your right (or left, if you want) arm goes into the water. I'm not sure if that's what you were counting, since your stroke count seemed kind of high, but obviously everyone's strokes vary.

I like when we 'play' this in swim class. It always makes me realize how much my stroke goes to crap when I'm going fast (the first 25 yds is always <10 strokes, but the second shoots way up!)

    Looks like fun

I will try it too when I am in the pool next- When I read the headline I thought it was going to be like pool hockey where you actually play underwater- I was just waiting to see what they used as cups
I just started swimming again after a long hiatus so this will be a good drill for me
    Thanks

I average 19-21 strokes per 25 yards. I can't count 50 yards because I can't do flip turns, so I don't know how my "grab the wall and spin around" turns would affect that number.

I'm working with a coach to try to figure out how I can get more efficient in my swimming. I'm hoping to get my stroke count down to 16-17.

According to the article, 25m laps (flip turn or not) count as well, but because you get 2 pushoffs, saving you a couple strokes, 80 instead of 85 is the "sound barrier".
