commuter skorts?

i own a sugoi wrap-around and a terry commuter skort. i like the style of the sugoi lots more than the terry, but the sugoi only comes in black. does anyone know of any other good commuter skort options out there?

I have a Louis Garneau one that I like a lot, but I'm not sure what the Terry and Sugoi are like, so I don't know if you would like it. It comes with shorts underneath, but they aren't attached so you can wear any pair you want. The skirt came in black, cream and glacier. The glacier is a like a light grey with a tint of blue color.

thanks for the info, i'll start surfing the net for the louis garneau "cover up". a light blue would likely be very nice to wear @ work. (i enjoy FUNCTIONAL clothing that allows me to bike to work comfortably and safely and still look good enough to not have to change once i'm there. i wonder why more bike clothing companies don't make commuter skorts?)

Did you look at Team Estrogen? Lots of skirts you can put over your favorite pair of shorts.

I think a lot of the clothing manufacturers are making skorts and skirts both. Check Pearl Izumi for one. I suspect that new ones will be making their way to the stores with the spring clothing runs.

I have a nice fitting Sheebeast skirt (though in black) that has padded shorts attached. The back waistband is cut slightly higher than the front band, which I like because it doesn't cut off my mid section. They have no seams and the fabric is top notch. I can put these in the dryer and they have never shrunk.

On that matter, though, what's the general feeling about wearing skirts vs pants? Can I wear mine wherever I wish? Do they tend to hang up on one's seat? I ask after noticing there aren't any women's bike teams sporting skirts as the bottom half of their uniforms...

I have the sugoi wrap skirt that I love. I also have a couple of terry skorts that I don't care for at all. In fact now that I think about it, I cut the wrap off, kept the shorts and tossed the skirt part.

I have the shebeest cycloskorts. I had one for 2 years that transitioned from MTB to road and still looks brand new (washer to dryer) so I just got two new ones.

I've seen some on sale at REI.outlet - maybe you'll see something there you'll like.

Watch out though - some of these are seriously short!! I won a gift certificate to this store and since I'm not so into skirts for on the bike, I used most of it on sports bras - but I had a little left over and the School Girl fit what I had left to a t.... when it got here yikes I don't think I can wear it without getting a citation for indecent exposure - its really, really short and I'm not tall so that was a real surprise.

I like the Terry skorts a lot, but I'm short so found that the Racer Skorts are what work for me. The Commuter Skorts are too long and look dowdy. I think they're comfy and cute -- great for stopping to shop or eat while riding!

I didn't like the the way the skirt part of the Terry skort attached to the shorts. The click in buckle bunched up and it just felt awkward. It was like the waist of the skirt part was too big on me in an x small, but the shorts part was fine. Plus, the shorts were not the same quality as their regular shorts. I usually wear 8 inch shorts with a lot of lycra, since I am short and my thighs are not rock firm, no matter how many miles I ride. The shorts under the skort are 6 inch, leaving me with wobbly thighs. Plus, the chamois isn't as good as the other Terry shorts. I found a PI skort on sale in a sporting goods store that did not have a buckle and it fit much better. However, again, the chamois was lacking. I wore it on a 30 mile ride and almost died. So, I love the way the Terry skorts look in the catalog, but they just don't fit me.

I can't imagine riding in a skort - but I do have some of the Terry Wrapper skirts. I get the Tall version even though I am not tall - the 19 inch length is much more acceptable to me than the non-Tall 16 inch. In fact, I wish some of the other manufacturers would add longer skirts to their lines.

The skirts can be thrown on top of your favorite cycling shorts if you really aren't comfortable walking around (or riding) in shorts. I use mine as totally off-the-bike skirts (since I don't feel the need to ride in anything other than shorts or tights). The skirts roll up into a small package so one usually accompanies me when I tour. Sometimes it's nice to have a skirt with me.

I agree with you on the shorts under the Terry skorts. They are a bit on the short side and the chamois is not as good as other Terry chamois, at least in the older skorts I have. I use them for rides < 30 miles only. They are cute and useful for market rides, and the sizing fits me pretty well, but my hips are narrow compared to my waist.

Riding in the short racer skorts is not a big deal. The top flaps back a bit, but doesn't bother me. I wouldn't want to ride in one of the longer skorts, though.

What didn't you like about the Terry skorts? I have a few and like them. They seem to offer the most variety of colors and styles.
