    July 12 rides

Finally got beyond the big 0 towards my 2500 goal on bikejournal. Indoors and estimated, but still ... Caught a 75 minute spin class at the gym halfway home from the office. Had to powerwalk there to make it on time. Through the snow (we have an inch or two now, kinda like walking in sand), so I was well warmed up already when the session started. It was a fairly tough session, endurance with lots of climbing, then intervals at the end. I was relieved to find that I can still do standing climbs, even after being off the bike for a couple months. Back when I first started a good year ago, spinning to get in shape for the Cindy, I couldn't stand more than a few seconds without my hr going so high I felt dizzy and my knees getting so sore they weren't stable. Now I could power sprint standing even at the end of the hour. Seated I wasn't putting on much resistance before my cadence fell through the floor, but I'll get back in shape. I'll miss this class next week -- dinner date that starts too early to finish the class -- but there are others.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Nice report Duck. But is Norway 6 months out of phase with North America? Or have you found a time warp?

    Duck, are you time traveling?
    My January 12ride
woke up early , was going to by the orange groves to see the burners, but forgot and did one of my usual routes. I was doing pretty good time and thought about doing some extra, but decided to come back in. It was a good thing, as it started to hail when I left for work.

I went for a short 20 mile ride before work (in the dark at 5 am), then commuted to and from work (16 miles round trip). I haven't been on the bike much most weeks due to back pain, but I was pain free and happy to be riding this morning.

I was wondering why a July ride post would have been bumped up!

Glad that at least last night we completely dodged the ice bullet - all rain. (There was A little bit of flooding here and there.) Workin' on making the same thing happen tonight.

My Jan. 12 ride was WET - but happily those strings of Christmas lights from Walgreens are still flashing away, even if they weren't recommended for outdoor use.

Today it'll be riding out for our bike shop guy's memorial service.

My birthday is in July too!

I did not take my planned route as bad weather is forecast so I wanted to be able to sprint home if necessary. So I just rode for mileage. Did hit a personal best speed that's not in a descent, 29.7 mph.

Got blown off the road by a blue GMC SUV. If I were faster, and she was slower, I might have gotten into the first fist fight in my 51 years.

But then later, I was riding down a little country road and 2 little boys, 8ish said, "Wow, a bike rider." So I stopped and talked to them. They were duly impressed.

Finally headed home when the wind began to really pick up. But still a fun ride!
