Well, it was COLD today.
Had about 2 inches of snow last night, but only an inch left this morning and the roads looked pretty dry and clear sky so I decided to try to ride. It was 20F when I went out but stopped first for a warm breakfast and it was about 23 degrees F or so for my ride. I really bundled up good today, broke out the heavy artillery.
I had wanted to do my usual 21 miles loop, but I cut it to 12 miles instead because my fingers got painfully cold. It's always my fingers and toes that do me in!
I got yet ANOTHER type of expensive specialized windproof glove on the way home- this time an OVERSIZED pair that fit right over my TWO sub-layer gloves of merino and polartec. My toes were also getting chilled but were ok with the shorter loop ride. My eyeglasses were freezing my face and nose bridge, like eating ice cream too fast--painful!-- that's been a problem in the cold. I wore TWO balaclavas and kept the rest of my face and chin pretty warm. Had THREE tights on. My core and legs and arms and head were warm, happily.
Anyway, I was glad to get out a bit on my bike, knowing that the next few days are supposed to be freezing sleet/rain mix and yucky. DH was impressed when I returned because he saw that I had some snow on my tires.

I'll get out for some 3 mile brisk walks during some of those days. It's way easier to keep warm walking, I've found. For one thing, you can put your hands in your pockets for a while. And you're not creating your own 20mph wind chill factor!
