Anyone else here being a bum?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Well, I haven't worked out in.... uuuuummmm.... 3 days. And I won't be working out today (Christmas Day)... so that will make it 4 days.

I don't know about the rest of you... but if I don't take a break... and be "bad"... I burn out. I figured the end of December was the perfect time to slack off, since I don't have any races on the calendar, etc.

True... I need to keep my running miles up so I can consider IMAZ 08 in April 2007... but gosh, this gal needed a break from the routine. I have also learned that if I don't take a break from a routine, I get bored and stop all together.

So... anyone else here being a bum? Or are the rest of you being completely good and working out through the Christmas break?

I've been a bum this week, too! I only ran one day, rode my road bike one day, and mtn biked 2 days. Sad, but true. I'm like you- I need a "mental" break from training every now and then or I just wear out.
We'll get back on the wagon tomorrow- no worries! For now, enjoy the day off and relax (and probably eat a little more than normal- what the heck- Christmas only comes once a year).

I have been a complete bum and I am feeling slightly guilty about it. I have two running books to read through today ( The Runner's Handbook, Bob Glover) and (The Complete Runner's Handbook, Bob Glover) and get a training plan going for me. Before now I was simply following a running guide onlione. I also have doctor's clearance to begin riding on my trainer.

I smell dinner, yum. I would go for a run today, but it is, again, raining.

I shall spend today having fun with my family and educating myself more or training and tomorrow my training programme shall begin.

    Chillin'

I'm hanging out with the family, listening to jazz and feeling completely indulgent. I've had about 6 pieces of chocolate and there will be no riding, running or swimming today. Probably not for a few days. I'm visiting the outlaws in LA and I always find it hard to make myself go out an train in LA.

Remember that you only lose about 1% of your cardio fitness if you take off one week completely. The next week back always feels a little tougher but it comes back really fast and it's great to have a mental break.

So I have resigned myself to the fact that there will be very little training this week and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it.

Bring on the turkey and post meal poker game.

    Ho Ho Ho.

I have also been a bum. We have been in to process of moving and school has been out, my running partner (the four legged kind) has been at Grandma's house and work has been more. I haven't had time and made my own excuses. I will be back soon enough.

I'm off another week but because of all the holiday and family obligations, have not had a chance to be a bum yet. Tomorrow's the day, and I plan to be a bike bum. Yay, I finally get to ride my bike! It'll just be a slow, fat-burning winter ride, though - no real working out yet.

Hey! That's not being a bum... riding your bike slow doesn't count as being a bum.

Now, sitting on the couch and not moving all day long... that's being a bum.

Well... I'd like to be some days, but my usually my legs ache if I go more than a day without spinning them... so I have ridden almost every day... some not so fast... so semi-bumming

I have not been a bum, actually, *but* I did take about a week off in December earlier. I have since decided like many of you that time off is necessary and actually will help keep from feeling burned out. As long as you are motivated to think of a faster, sleeker, stronger you crossing the line in your first/next event, going back to the routine will be easy, once it's time. And, you may even find that you are more excited about it since you had a little break (that worked for me anyway).

Yesterday I did "The Uphill Grind" spinerval, yow. Today I did spin class with the good sub who actually has good music and a good workout, and then ran for 41 minutes! woo!

Tomorrow is a rest day. I am equally excited about that.

    Help! Need inspiration from bumdom!

Ugh. I'm sitting here trying hard to convince myself to get dressed and on my bike. I know once I'm out riding I'll be diggin' it, but I can't seem to get up off this chair... will someone please kick my *** and tell me to get off my lazy butt?!

That said, I've been able to avoid being a bum so far... since Sunday I have done two 2-1/2 hr. rides, a brick workout (1 hr bike+ 5k run) and a 5 mile run. But my rest/recovery day is not sceduled til tomorrow and I can't take two days off in a row.

I gotta ride... But my coffee tastes sooooooo gooood and gee, look... Blind Date is on TV right now. Oh, and it looks like my toenails need clipping. And you know what? I never realized how soft my couch pillows are...

    GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUTT!

    j/k

My December has been slow, too. I took almost a full week off when I found out about the celiac, and then I've been sick for the past two weeks (but have been doing some working out here and there).

Just aggravated about being sick because it's not snowing yet but it's going to soon, so precious time has been wasted.

I haven't done anything on my bike (either bike) since November, and I'm going nuts.

I haven't been for a run since the beginning of December, and I'm going nuts.

I haven't swum since the Danskin tri. Eh, so what...

This weekend I intend to go buy running shoes (Brooks Beasts) so I don't have to run in my Chaco sandals any more. If it doesn't rain I'll go for a bike ride. On Monday I want to go watch the Polar Bear Swim. Which I'll have to google to find out what time it is. There's my swim/bike/run for the holiday weekend; does that count as a brick?

yeah, we'll give it to you.

Wednesdays heavy rains left it so clear here, that view I get from BART from San Francisco waaaay down the coastal mountain range sometimes reminds me "hey, you lazy bum, you have to ride that in June". I vowed to do 2 spin classes a week....does it count that I did part of one last week?
