    silly fit question

I've only been out on my road bike a few times. I'm gripping my handle bars closer to the heels of my hands than the palm of my hands. Sometimes when I am going pretty fast it feels like if I got bumped my hands would slip forward off my bars. I picture myself...chest on the bars, hands stuck in spokes, flying through the air!!!!! Is this a fit problem or just me getting used to new positioning (I'm used to my very upright hybrid).

I'm taking her in next week for a professional fit and I don't want to sound just stupid when I go in there

    Barb,

That's a tough question to answer without seeing you on the bike! My GUESS would be that its a fit problem but hopefully, one that can be fixed easily. You might just need to have your saddle moved a bit farther back. You might need a longer stem. You are doing the smart thing and going in to a bike shop to get fit. If it is a good shop, there are no stupid questions you can ask them. Tell them just what you posted about how your hand position feels. Then when they put you on the bike and have you ride it they'll know to be watching specially for that problem. Good luck!

Thanks Annie. I was going to take her in on Thursday but I forgot that I have an evening thingy at the school I work at. Now it will have to wait until the weekend.
