    costume ideas...

there's this "day of the dead" party coming up, at which "people coming in costume will receive special adulation." Adulation would be fun
I need something reasonably simple, oh, perhaps mildly slinky... and *maybe* I could go as a cyclist, on the grounds that I generally don't dress as a cyclist when I'm riding my bike, but I"d rather think of something a little more fun. I could also simply wear my clothes from the El Salvador ladies' co-op... hmmm... okay, I think I know where I'm going but if it woudl be fun to think about, share!

This is my "costume" from last year.

I had two flats that day and was had a close call with a car trying to right-hook me. I was really annoyed. Here's the result (the faux-boobs are not part of the costume). I'm with the jellow jersey.

(I should add that I was really convinced that the new "guy" I went to the party with was also interested in a relationship with me when he kissed me despite the black stuff on my teeth and my awful appearance. It will be a year in a few days... )

I was also considering a bike related costume, although I was thinking of a mountain biker who had a run in with a cougar or bear or something! Kind of nasty, but funny, too. Great look, Grog!! Loving the teeth!

Oh, I had a Jeep run over my jersey a few times to try to imprint the tire thread pattern, but it didn't work too well. If anyone can pull that one let me know how, I'm interested in perfecting the costume.

Another idea: this is my friend Murray and his girlfriend Jen (aka The Zebra in the picture). He was disguised as a doping cyclist (he's an elite Ironman competitor). Jen is holding the transfusion bag on the picture and he tried to push me some synthetic testosterone...

Awesome! I'm totally gonna steal the cyclist-hit-by-car costume for a party I was invited to! Though I will feel kinda bad because it's not really funny.... but this is Halloween! I may try to find some sort of washable black paint, put it on a newspaper, roll my car over the newspaper and then over my commuter jersey. Then I can rinse off my car's tire with the hose.

BUMPing this because the halloween party I'm going to is on Friday evening and I got the whole 'cyclist hit by car' costume ready to go. But now I'm having doubts because, well I live in Philly and lots of the folks there commute by bike and stuff so there will be plenty of cyclists at the party and I'm worried that they might find the costume offensive if they have had or have known people who have had near brushes with accidents or been in accidents.

Being a cyclist, I know being hit by a car is a very scary reality, but this is HALLOWEEN and besides, in a way you could look at it like I am spreading awareness to non-cyclists about how they should share the road, right!?

Am I just being oversensitive/nervous here?

    K.
