sometimes this place is a welcome distraction. the house and the senate are voting to legalize torture, forgive the prez for war crimes and eliminate habeus corpus.
My own senators and representative voted against this BS but it's still happening!

So I come here and dream with you guys about bikes and cool gadgets.

I called my LBS today (Okay, Elliott Bay bikes) and asked them about what to do about my Bianchi that won't take a fender. He talked about putting a split fender on it; a type of surgery that takes 1-2 hours. And I may do that.
But what about my next bike, I ask; the future? he says, well, it would be foolish of me not to mention; we MAKE bikes and we can fit it however you like.
We can even put your campy stuff on the new bike if you like; just take it off
your old bike. I mentioned that it would be a while before I could get a custom bike because they are in the process of making one for my husband. He laughed and said, "no, you don't understand how this works.. once HE gets one, he can't argue when you say you want one too!"
I am not ready to ditch my cute bianchi today but it was with a gleefully warm and fuzzy feeling that I hung up the phone... and for a moment I forgot that our country is stepping into the dark ages.

BO3, I am glad you have a diagnosis, but sorry that's what it is. And very glad that you can keep biking. More chocolate. Definitely.

KN, I'll post the lone vote for Wildebeest. I also like Margarita, but think it would look cuter over slender hips and belly than my own curves!

I've decided to just stop buying stuff, as much as I can. I sat down and got a solid grip on my finances last Friday. I *can* get out of the debt with which I left my marriage, if I knuckle down. I do, however, also want to get a trainer for the bike so I can ride indoors this winter. My LBS is getting in (I think) CycleOps trainers (if that sounds right), which cost $330. So now I'm thinging, for example, "Hmmm, a new skort, only $35...or....1/10th of a trainer!" Then I imagine the figure I calculated I need to pay off this year, and the skort or theraputic trip to Target or whatever sounds so much less appealing. I'm keeping an eye on Steep & Cheap for a Christmas gift for my brother. I'm kicking myself for not getting him the SmartWool zip T-neck the other day. I had the idea the day after, by which time they were selling snowboards again, of course!

SK-I have a CycleOps and love it. My not so local bike store sold it to me for under $300! The best purchase I ever made, besides my bike of course.

I too am kicking myself for not buying the merino zip-up.

The best thing about this diagnosis is I get to take baby aspirin-yum!

Why do medical questions come to me after their offices are closed? I had a seizure delivering my first child and I am on anti-seizure meds, will the Calcium Blocker play nicely witht the seizure meds?

Call the pharmacist about the drug interactions.

You can get a lot of info on the drug's website also. Amazing what's out there on the 'net these days.

are they the grape flavored ones? yummy!

my favorite med is still the buble gum flavored antibiotic (i think) i had as a kid for ear infections. ahhh... the memories.

Nooooooo! No grape flavor - makes me wanna womit! I preferred the old fashioned orange flavor.

How's this menu sound? It's for my Dad's 80th birthday party.

Lime marinated Salmon fillets
Grilled Vegetables (potatoes, peppers, onions..??)
Green Salad - all lots of goodies like berries
Pasta with Butternut Squash and Shallots (for the vegetarians)
Crusty bread

Can I get away with serving a light tasting red wine?

Yes, you most definitely can. Ask your LWS (local wine shop) for a recommendation - they will definitely have a few for you. The whole, white with fish and chicken, red with beef, veal and pork thing is such overstatement.

I liked the orange-colored Triaminic when I was little. I have no idea what it is actually supposed to taste like, but it was always very pleasant and sweet.

Anything fake cherry my mother had to hold me down and force down my throat. Robitussin = ew!

BMO3 - Sorry to hear about the stroke, but hopefully you can prevent anything worse.

Thought I'd show you all a picture from my 2003 Long Trail hike. There were 3 ladders on the trail, and we worried about getting the dog up them. Here is Dalydog (and his owner) ascending the first ladder. He did great. The 2nd ladder was OK too. The third ladder was aluminum and he couldn't climb that, but we got him around it on a ledge. Whenever we'd come to a steep part that required handholds for humans, Daly would study the rock for a minute or so, then he'd leap and scramble up, with each of his 4 feet landing just where he'd planned. Though I hadn't met Daly (or his human) before we started this hike, by the 2nd day he had adopted me and insisted that the two humans hike together so he could keep an eye on both of us (his border collie tendencies, apparently). I'd never met such an intelligent and serious dog.

Wow, does that sound fantastic! I think I'll draw some inspiration from this menu for my future cooking.

Two aspects of the menu -- the lime marinade on the salmon and the butternut squash -- make me suggest an Alsatian Pinot Gris. Your LWS will be able to suggest a good one in the $12 range; one reliable producer is Trimbach. A gewurztraminer might also work, but it might be a bit sweet for the tang of the lime.

If you want to go red, there are plenty of good-value-for-money pinot noirs, but even that is likely to come in conflict with the lime on the salmon. In that case, you could change your marinade to balsamic vinaigrette or something like it.

YUM!
