I recall reading that there are some mechanisms the body has for holding on to a weight, making it easier to gain than to lose. Losing tends to go in thresholds, where you can lose a bit, then your body hangs on at that level for a while. You have to keep at it ("it" being more exercize, less calory intake) and eventually you start on another step downwards.

Thank you gals for keeping me at it. I seem to have finally broken through the 180-pound glass floor. 178 this morning! Woohoo!
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Ladies, I'm sorry I missed last Friday. I was a the hospital all day doing pre-op stuff and never got to it and then had surgery on Monday. I am still doing this if I can, I will weigh in again this Friday. I hope it's okay I missed one week.

DDH -- I hope you are recovering well from your surgery! Please take care of yourself!

I didn't do quite as well as planned this week. Got lots of miles in on the bike, but also got lots of cake and ice cream in after the rides. Up to 202.6 this week.

Weighing in very happily this morning at 180. Down 2.6 lbs. I had a long ride last saturday and everyday I either bike / walk. I am going to push myself a bit harder this week to break through the 170's! People are starting to notice my body changing and that keeps me motivated .. as well as all of you! 2 weeks left of this challenge!

    Sorry I've disappeared

    Hey Ladies,

Sorry I have disappeared and not kept up the exercise log. As I said a couple weeks ago, issues with parents ... my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and with mom's memory issues, my sister and I are having problems getting information. They live in Florida, I live in Ohio, my sister lives in California. Anyway, I've got more on my plate than I want and haven't been able to check in on a regular basis. Sorry.

I know I didn't weight in last week, but this week I am down to 131. I've cut 10 minutes off my 'usual mtb ride' since mid July ... yea me!

I'll get back with you all soon.

Seems I've been eating like crazy lately - building winter fat I guess. Gotta stop!

226 - finally budging! Of course, I think losing my appetite from a cold might have had something to do with it. Ah well - I'll take it any way I can

133.8 this morning. I suspect it is water weight loss because I was working in the yard yesterday sweating buckets. I was drinking water all day as well, but woke up in the middle of the night parched, so I know I'm a bit dehydrated. Still, it was nice to see a number lower than usual, so for the moment, I'm happy.

159.5 this morning!!!!! YAY!!!!! Finally broke the 160 barrier. This is the first time I've seen the 150s in about 6 years.

GLC, thanks as always for the awesome chart. My goal for this challenge was to drop 5 pounds, so 158.

I knew this AM would proably NOT be good like Thursday.
That being said who knows which weight is right? I feel pretty good and I want to KEEP my weight yesterday as the weight to record--117.8 (it is not like I will win so I don't think I am cheating!)
Even if it is a "fluke" like a previous time I lost...then maybe it will really prompt me to remain really good so I DON'T go back up.

So I am sticking w/ my 117.8 to record and next week we will know for sure. If I go back up then NEVER again will I record a weight that I have not seen at least 2 days in a row or at least in teh same few days!

This fluctuation thing is hell! Also 2 folks at gym could tell my running and working out was making a difference...they could tell by looking at me...so maybe I'll see 117.8 or less again!

147.5 for me this morning. And that is after downing bottles of water after forgetting to hydrate during this morning's run.

I was a bit depressed earlier in the week because the scale went all the way up to 151. I want to stay faaaar away from the 150s!

Well -- not good news on my front. I had a good exercise and decent food week in general, and feel good about what I'm doing.

However..... I'm up again... 168.6. I almost died when I saw that this morning! Wow... I really have been coasting too much. Time to get more serious!

If we are still keeping track: I ran 10 miles this week, walked 6.5, biked 30. Boot Camp -- two hours (oh, it hurts!). Swam 800m.
