we have earthquakes around here all the time too, just don't pay much attention to them anymore. not a big one (yet) but in anchorage when i had my wisdom teeth pulled and on some good drugs, it was quite fun.

there are also active volcanos around here. they are always smoking, but according to the volcanologists, they think one of them going to be a big one soon.

one around anchorage was causing lots of problems for awhile.

I hate rollers most of all. Somehow they are the creepiest. I'm most aware of the lack of noise before it starts and then seeing your cement pad floor actually roll in waves across the room is like something out of a movie. However, I will take earthquakes to hurricanes and tornados -- and this is said by someone who was thrown out of a top bunk during the Silmar (San Fernando) earthquake in the 70s.

I'm a standby today for my dad. The MRI has been moved up to today at 2 pm. They're looking for brain involvement. The GP said to my mom out in the hallway "he's hot" and this is a doc who doesn't talk much. It looks like the abdomen is involved this time. If it's in the brain also, well . . . . who knows. His oncologist is on vacation all of next week so my parents have been told to stay at the hospital until they get a phone report of the MRI. My mom thinks it is so the doc can call in an order for a porta-cath. My personal opinion is that no doc worth his salt would do this without consulting with the patient on ALL of his options. Dad is considerably older and in poorer health, mentally and physically, than when we went through this in 2001 -- and the cancer could be far more extensive. I'm not sure yet about bone involvement. I'm hoping this in not family battle time. My mother is absolutely excellent at jumping to conclusions and making decisions for everyone without consultation. After all, she reads the books so she knows. Everyone hear the sarcasm dripping from my fingers?

OK, two clients appts this morning. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest first.

    Wow! He's gorgeous!

There are a lot of feral peacocks in California's central valley. While they are beautiful I'm glad the closest ones live over a mile from me. I don't need them as an alarm clock.

Oh! I love their call! It sounds so jungle-y...(There was one down the road from me, but I haven't seen him in a while.) They can really fly, too!

It DOES look like a snowflake!

I have one slide left and cannot focus my brain long enough to work on it. Argh!

Mr. Fish and I have been perusing websites looking at potential houses in the Baton Rouge area. Today we both (independently) came upon this one. http://www.homesbyowner.com/baton_ro...p?homeid=42765
It's a bit smaller than our current house, but similar in a lot of respects. It was funny that we both found the same house.

SK - good luck with your dad, and your mom. That sounds rough.

SK, how did things go for your dad today? What did the doc mean by "he's hot"? Hot as in pretty sick? Hot as in feverish? Keeping you all in my thoughts and my heart.

I'm off to pick up the Green Hornet from her tune-up at the LBS. I hope they set her to "Super Speedy"!

Hot as in the cancer is back. My dad actually said a couple days ago that he thought it was back.

Ah. Well, I'm sorry to hear it. Not surprised to hear your dad could tell before the docs did.

Cr*p! I should have told them to do that! Probably not included in the complimentary tune up, though... Somehow I managed to lose a bar end plug ( ), so I asked them to replace that. Not only did they replace the one, they replaced both, so they match, and they didn't charge me anything for it. These guys are still extending the 10% discount to me. That's only supposed to be for stuff you buy from them in the 1st month after your bike purchase. I bought my bike 4 months ago. I <heart> my LBS!

BZ--thanks. May the rollers stay far away from you all.

I think I'll watch Napoleon Dynamite tonight, to drive out any overly serious thoughts about the tri!

    SK,
Best of luck to you and your family. My thoughts will be with you in the days, weeks, months ahead, and if you ever need someone to talk to, just pm/email me. You aren't and never will be alone in this. I've had my share of 'family battle time' and I'm always here if you need someone.

CWR- I like the peacock. One of my neighbors is a bigshot at Intel and has at least 10 of them wandering around his yard. Nothing like being stirred from a deep sleep by a chorus of "eeeeAH!"s in the wee hours... AND you've never seen roadkill 'til you've seen a 'grilled' peacock. Wow.

Cr*p, what a night. It took me three hours to get to Petaluma; whipping down highway 101 at a top speed of 15 mph. I get here, get checked in and decide I'm starving. So I go to good old Applebee's, since I like the Cajun Tilapia, and I can walk over. Have a drink, have wine with dinner, float back to the hotel. Unpack my bag................

    SH!T SH!T SH!T SH!T SH!T

I not only forgot my bike sox, I forgot the all important sport bra. No...the girls will not go riding free. Search the handy visitor's guide - ah ha! A Mervyns. Off I go.....nothing. I did find some sox, hopefully they won't kill me. I'm heading back, thinking KMart? Like a beacon in the west, I see a Big 5 Sporting Goods.

    Angels sing, shout Hallelujah!

Thirty-six dollar later, I am equipped for tomorrow's whopping 35 mile ride.

Now I'm watching the DaVinci Code.

Way cool side note: There is evidently some kind of Police Dog Competition going on here. The parking lot is full of "Canine Unit" police cars, and men in uniform. Hello Officer!!! Actually, I hope I see some of the dogs before I go.
