Crankin, Is there still anything like Philips Coffee in West Acton anymore or has it all become suburbanized and gentrified?

I loved working there and managing it and I really miss it and the area.

    Drink one for me .

Second good news event is that I also managed to jog three miles in 38 minutes yesterday. Goes to show that I can do this thing in November. Was thinking that I had been absolutely insane to even attempt it as an arthritic 63 year old with no cartiledge (spelling) and a missing ACL in one leg. Am definitely feeling somewhat redeemed.marni

    Marni,
Phillips is still there... although it has gone through 3 owners and name changes since you left. It's now called Sweet Bites and is owned by a woman Josh's age who was written up in the NY Times as starting a successful business during the recession. It hasn't really changed much. It is nicer inside, but not that different. The menu is still the same style, baked goods, some breakfast sandwiches, soups, sandwiches, and the ice cream. There's a wider variety of food. I am not sure if it is "yuppified," it still feels like a nice independent coffee shop. People work there all day and they don't bother you. The prices have gone up a lot, but, the food is really good.
Since I moved from Boxborough to Concord and stopped teaching in Hudson, I mostly go there when i am on a ride, or after a hike/snowshoe in the Flag Hill Conservation land, as it's not on my way to work anymore. But, I still prefer it to the cafes in Concord center.

nice to know that some things have remained sort of the same. The building always had a great ambiance, and the ghost who hung around the old mill grinding mechanism in the basement was always interesting and not hostile. It was a fun place to work.
