Marni,
I've been off of the forum for a bit but just found your thread. Wishing you the best - I've been there myself with a bilateral mastectomy two years ago this August. And you're right - being in shape and a positive attitude makes it incredibly easier to bounce back from. Six days post surgery I took my first post surgery 7 mile ride with my sister - wasn't much but it gave a true sense of normalcy back. One month to the day of the surgery I did the c&o canal, again with my sister, over 5 days which I had trained all year for. The only concession I would give to the cancer was to change the schedule from 3 days to 5. Give yourself patience, humor, love and don't let people tell you to "not overdo". And now you belong to the pink team...lol

Carol,
Thanks for your note. You tale of recovery makes me sound like a total wimp as I am two weeks into recovery and struggling with cardio endurance and just making myself do anything at all. I try to rationalize it by thinking that I probably went into the whole situation way overtrained and my body needs more than it's usual 1 week recovery time between 6 week training sessions, but I also think that I may have gotten a bit too much anesthetic and pain killer for the surgery and hospital stay.
Of course that fact that I have to haul my FIL's 20 pound dog in and out of the house 6 times or so a day, since he is on 6 weeks enforced cage rest for an ACL and cystectomy for bladder stones, doesn't help much since it pretty much makes FIL a basket case as well. However I have started back to the gym or on the trainer on a daily basis, plus allowing myself as many therapeutic afternoon naps as I seem to need so slowly day by day it gets easier.
As for the pink team- good a cause as it is I have to say this is one team I never aspired to belong to
Thanks for the good thoughts- I am trying to be patient and maintain my sense of humor but sometimes it is easier than others.
