I found a bird exactly like that laying in the middle of the road when I lived in Minnesota. I _thought_ it was a pigeon of some sort, but wasn't sure. The guys that were fixing our house after the tornado said it was a baby Great Blue Heron!!! I'm sure...That was my beloved Dil_bert_, who was with me only till Christmas of that year, the worst year of my life.

I won't give up caffeine, even though it occasionally makes my eye twitch for two weeks at a time...

My DPITA is flying through France to get to Germany today. She called me at blink:30 a.m. in a tizzy over all this.

At least if she gets stranded in Paris at CDG, she could take a train into Germany. (she'll only be a couple hundred miles from where she's going)

I'm thinking today will be a very safe day to fly, but a very slow one. As long as she can get all her connections into France it should work out. It's a British plane into Germany. That'll probably be very late.

    I'll worry all day anyway.

Ooh! Ooh! Nanci! I meant to tell you! On my walk from the clinic to the car yesterday, I saw one very dead sparrow in the grass, and one...dead? little black bird in the street next to my car. As I approached, his wing twitched, and I saw that his eyes were open. He was lying on his belly, with both wings spread out. I didn't see any obvious trauma. I turned to the car to look for something flat to scoop him up and put him on the grass, and...he flew away! Just resting? I thought maybe some bigger bird had attacked him and he fell...I know so little about bird ways. I was glad he could fly away, and I thought, "I must tell Nanci".

KN, I agree with you, probably a safe day for flying, but still, a worrisome one. Hang in there. L.

    Perfect!! Exactly right.

I will say I am glad our vacation next week involves camping in the woods instead of airport lines....

Well, Lise, I guess this PVC thing is being managed/investigated okay - but the whole chest pain business really concerned me. It's one thing to have your heart do some wonky things - but when it causes pain, that seems a bit odd.

I have finally traced the cause of my chest pain (other than the emboli) - it is Tuesday spin class with BEN. Any other spin class I have been fine with really bringing the effort level down, as I suspected that it was a high HR that led to chest pain the following day. Well, with Ben's spin class it is really hard to bring the level down. I know it's self-directed, etc. but he's just super intense and really motivating. SO I either have to skip Tuesdays or have a little chat with him explaining my bad self and why I won't be sweating as much.

Have the chat - don't skip the class. And stop working so hard!

fishdr "I had the same thought"

This is so cool that sometimes we think the same thoughts.

I had a nice bike to work .... right up to the last block with a verbal encounter with a snotty whiner of a jaywalking pedestrian.

So my good mood is broken, till I log onto TE There now, I feel better. Now I'll get to work and Mallot, have a chat but you don't have to proove anything to anyone, spin your own spin.

    Thumbs up shorts!

to most of you, except those down under, have been doing this for a while, but last night i was actually able to run in shorts!
it was about 55*, misting and no wind. threw the shorts on and went out the door without a second thought. it was so nice. it was actually the first time i ran in shorts and they were my bran spankin new UA compression shorts, which i really like. they didn't creap at all.
of course today its blowin hard, raining and cold, but its ok because i got out in shorts yesterday.

Would I fly to London today?? NO!!! but then I won't fly anyday if I don't have to - I hate, hate, hate to fly - not because of terrorist incidents but because of crashing - I'm abdolutely phobic - so much so that my husband and I are discussing a transatlantic cruise for the next time we go back to the states
I was just reading the August copy of National Geographic and they have an interesting article on Ways to Go. Its stats on what holds the greatest chance of ending your life (macabre I know). Well Bicycling accidents are in there but they dont really rate much higher than Air/space accident. Here are a few of the stats.

    Bicycling accident 1 in 4,919

    Air/space 1 in 5,134

Pedestrian accident 1 in 626 (beware crossing the street)

    Lightning 1 in 79,746

    Falling 1 in 218

Fireworks discharge 1 in 340,733 (your pretty safe on the 4th of July)

    Drowning 1 in 1,008

This little stat was at the top of the article "Total odds of dying, any cause 1 in 1"

Check the article out - some of the stats did suprise me.

No, no pain. Just really uncomfortable when it happens. There has been pain in the past, which I figured was a gallstone passing.

When I had my worst gallstone attack, I was sweating, shaking, in pain, couldn't breathe, of course I thought heart attack. A friend takes me to the ER, they slap a pulse oxygen monitor on me, it reads 100%, they take it off and I sit in a plastic chair for 3 hr waiting to be seen! Well, they were right. It wasn't my heart. That was '02.

This thing--18 skipped beats in 60 seconds--is really annoying and uncomfortable. We'll see what the echo shows. If that's OK, I'll do the tri, see how I feel. I've signed up for a 1/2 marathon in October, too. A lot of people get these. I think I'll do a search on a runners' site for any articles about what might help.

Coming off the caffeine I feel pretty sluggish. I had 1/2 cup this morning in hopes of avoiding that sudden withdrawl headache.

Maybe we should just start a Team Heart and Lung Defects. MP could join because of her lungs, Lise because of her heart, and me because of both!

Maybe we could call it Team DHL (Defective Hearts & Lungs) and get some corporate sponsorship....
