Sheesh. I'm guessing it hit around 88 or so in Seattle today. We planned to do an 87-mile tandem ride (still doing STP prep rides). Knew it would be hot so got up at 5:30, started riding at 7 am. The first three-four hours were fine. The last two hours felt like furnace-land. We did 83 miles. Now busy trying to pick a "drop-dead" temperature for STP---I'm pretty sure we couldn't manage the whole 206 miles at this temp. Truly, I am a total heat wiener. I admit it. Always have been.

Aren't the ends of such rides too much fun, though? Pouring the last of the water over my head, knowing we're done, reasonably happy with what we did...taking that wonderful shower, putting your feet up and entering a pleasantly idiotic state.

There was some kind of relay event on the Sammamish River Trail today too--people were cyclng, kayaking, and running. Whoof! Very cool to watch. Brave souls. Hats off to all who can keep going in this kind of heat!
