I'm so bored... Thom has spent the day on the computer with his parents doing stupid geo cache stuff.

I could have gone on a nice long bike ride. They didn't need me - except to cook.

I can't watch tv - their bed is in the den. I've read, surfed... even resorted to playing mine sweeper.

I SO want to bring my bike to Yosemite and not do this geo cache nonsense...

    End of whine.

Ah, I just logged a cache I found today - I had to drop off a travel bug. I don't get to geocache nearly as much as I'd like.

It's taken me to places I would have otherwise never seen.

Your biggest challenge isn't someone else.
It's the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs and the voice inside that yells "CAN'T".
But you don't listen. You just push harder.
And then you hear the voice whisper "CAN".
And you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.

I know lots of folks like geo caching. And it's been very good for his parents.

    I like the hiking.

I don't like the hours spent on the computer to find all the caches in an area, logging them, figuring out how to load them to their separate GPS units, taking the endless pictures of what you found and what you put in, looking for an hour to find the cache in the first place...

They are not very technically savvy, so they take advantage of their time with Thom to learn. And that's good. But it was from 9 AM to 7 PM that they spent working on this. I could have done something a little more exciting with my time, then cook a fabulous brunch and delicious supper.

I don't like how they insist upon doing it every time we're together. And they want to do them ALL.

Anyway... I don't really want to rag on something someone enjoys. Like I said, it has caused them to become more fit. And if it gets people outside, thinking about their environment, that's good too.

I'm not taking my bike to Yosemite. Thom insists they are here to visit with me as well. Hmmm... and that would be rude.

Hopefully, the scenery will adjust my mood.

Thanks as always for listening and letting me vent.

hmmm, I know how to geocode, but never tried geocaching. The latter looks a little more fun. Not sure which ranks higher on the geek factor though.

yosemite is awsome! Went there for the first time in November last year. All the falls were going and there was hardly anyone there! It was a bit cold but still really neat. We stayed at the Tanya lodge which was really nice. I would love to stay at the old lodge right there in the valley but it is really $$$$$$$$$ I can't justify spending that much on a room i am only going to sleep in and not hang out in. With all that beuty around you why would you stay in your room? Have fun!!! Say hi to the bears!

    TH - take a peek at www.geocaching.com

It's geek hide-n-seek. Someone hides a small container of trinkets somewhere, and gets the lat and long of that spot with their GPSr. Then they post a description of what they hid, clues to where they hid it, and the co-ordinates. Cachers get the info, go find the cache, and trade a trinket from the cache and leave one in it's place.

Some of them are really clever. Like "looking up" into a tree, where the cache is a big fake pinecone (in a maple). Some have math problems or riddles you have to solve to get the final clue. Some are just a plastic bag of cr@p tossed under a shrub.

The cachers who are really into it create a signature item, something they leave at every cache they visit. SKnot and I make zipper pulls with fimo beads as our sig item.

I "found" my engagement ring in a specially placed geocache. Doesn't get more fun than that!

I understand there's been a big rock slide across a main Yosemite road. Hope that doesn't mess things up for you.

Didn't they understand that you'll be much nicer to visit with if you've had yhour miles? I play much better with otters after a little exertion...
