The music video for "Where's Your Head At?" is my ALL time favorite!!!

Friend is in ICU for the night. Possibly getting discharged today. I told BF last night because he was saying we should call him up for dinner, so I had to, right?? :-)

Another friend called last night, that lives in Medory (sp?). He had to sell his house after Katrina, because A. it was ruined and B. to rebuild it, they would have to raise it six feet. So they have been renting, and he wants to leave New Orleans and Louisianna all together, but his wife has rellies and won't go...That whole thing, all those people, it is NEVER going to be ok again.

glad to hear your friend will be discharged soon. I love to dive, but the risk of accidents does scare me, especially now that I have kids. In a way, it is almost better that dh does not dive anymore - no risk of both of us getting into an accident.

Glad to hear your friend is recovering. I hope he gets discharged today - that would be great!

    And - it's Metarie, LA.

I just found out about a job opportunity in Baton Rouge, that I might apply for. It's essentially my job now, but on bees instead of catfish. My hubby really wants to get back to Louisiana. I miss it, too. We'd only be about 45 minutes from his parents. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. There are positives and negatives. Ugh!

    "positives and negatives"

My first thought: bees sting! catfish don't!

I enjoy paddling in the shallow waters of my mind.....

Nanci, glad your friend is getting out of hospital. I have to find that Basement Jaxx video now. Hopefully it's on iTunes somewhere.

I get mad hearing about people from N.O. who are selling their property for pennies because they can't fix it, and a developer offers them a tiny bit of money then will make a huge profit "rebuilding" and reselling. I know that's the miracle of capitalism, but it just seems so incredibly unfair. And how can you get N.O. back when the original people have left and richer new people from out of the area are going to be the only ones able to afford the new houses/redevelopment?

Catfish have nasty spines in their fins that can do some serious damage.

    Beedoc - I like that

My quandry about applying for this job is that my postdoc is also applying for it. I honestly do not think that she will qualify - it is a mol. biol. position and she is a microbiologist. She did not qualify as a mol. biol when she applied to be my postdoc. I may pull my app if she does qualify. What to do.. what to do...

There is something wierd going on with my computer or this site. If I type an apostrophe, it automatically goes to a find window at the bottom of the screen. Very wierd.

I've been "stung" a million times by Yellow Bullheads, especially as a kid, especially when trying to capture a whole ball of the babies. Bullheads are so cool to watch- they build a nest, guard it, suck the babies into their mouths to protect them. I've always liked seeing them in caves, while diving, too. They get way back in there sometimes! It's fun to try to sneak up on them and touch them- then they go blasting off through the silt, stirring up big clouds.

My friend had to visit the hyperbaric chamber again this morning. I don't know if he's still being released today or not. Hopefully.

    Slugs

Yesterday our cat had a slug on his back. It's a perfect metaphor for his life. He is so fat and slow that a slug can climb up on him. He had slug slime trails all over his fur.

    Duh!!

That's scary- they must have mistaken him for rotting vegetation! I need to get a picture of Fagalo and his slugs, but I'm sure that violates his policy of I can never look at him or he has to run away...
