    What would you do? LONG!!

The last two weeks have not been my healthiest. First, I managed to mess up my neck and shoulders, too much computer at work and home, not enough stretching. I had to cancel my Pilates class on Tuesday. Since the class is a duet, I called the woman I'm partnered with to let her know I wouldn't be there. That's my first mistake - I called on the wrong phone Mind you, she gave me three numbers, so I picked one and left a message. She calls later that night and tells me I really should have used her other number, and it's a good thing she had taken a mat class earlier in the day, or she'd be upset about canceling class. (Never mind that I could hardly turn my head either left or right.....)

The following Thursday, I work with my trainer/coach, and he helps fix the neck and shoulder problem (hurray for trainers that are Physical Therapists!)

I did the Cindy training ride on Saturday, then volunteered to help the SF AIDS foundation on Sunday at their bike expo. I did a lot of running around, lifting, setting up displays, moving cases of water. That monday, I had a little twinge in my lower back. Dang! Not enough streching! Did some light streches, and went to work on Tuesday. At this point, I'm looking forward to my Pilates class, figuring the workout will give my back the streching it needs. Lunch rolls around, I bend to open the drawer where my purse is, and TWANG!!!!! OHMYGODMYBACK!

Dragged my sorry a$$ home, and called my Pilates partner at about 1:00, to cancel a 7:30 pm class. I'm barely walking at this point, I've slapped on one of those Ben Gay patches, and I'm waiting for the Motrin to kick in. She calls and leaves a message - "sorry about your back, but could you give me 24 hours notice when you are canceling?" There was more, but I got extremely pissed and nuked the message.

Now really, if I knew 24 hours before hand that my back was going to go on me, I wouldn't be working for the County govenment, I'd have me an 800 number providing psychic advice to the masses!

My problem - I have eight more classes with this woman, and I so do not want to deal with her any more. My options - drop the class completely, which I don't want to do, ask the teacher if I can switch the 8 remaining duet classes to 5-6 private classes, or just tough it out for the next 8 weeks, but not sign up for the duet sessions with her again.

Well, I guess the other option is to call her back and rip her a new one, but that's not really my style

    Whaddaya all think?

    poor you!

all sorts of injuries, to deal with...ouch!

I think you need to explain and remind her that injuries happen whenever and you can't control it. calmly. you might want to talk to her about getting another partner, since it sounds like you have some muscular issues to deal with and you might be better off with a private session anyway.

    just my two cents...

    good luck!

    another two cents...

i agree with han-grrl. calm down a bit, and then try to talk to her. she might be having a bad day too-- not a horrible week like yours but maybe work trouble, family trouble, relationship trouble... i find that usually women are b****y for a reason. if you call her and are nice about everything, she'll probably deflate and apologize. if you are cranky back to her, she'll just have an excuse to yell. if you try to talk to her and she's still super-b****y... at least you can say you made every effort. good luck! this kind of thing is always more stressful than we'd like.
I used to dream about ice cream, Antonio Banderas, and daquiris on the beach. Now, i dream about fresh pavement...

Smile Find my happy place, find my happy place

OK, I took a deep breath, and a whole bunch of naps

My back is doing much better with some rest and vitimin I, and I'm not nearly so pissed.

I guess I'll finish out the last 8 sessions of my duet class, then either find another partner, go private, or check out a different studio.

Thanx for letting me vent ladies!

Had to laugh. At work the other day i came so close to telling someone to kiss my fat a$$ too. But got to tell you, I'm so glad i didn't. The problem for me is that i have hard time letting it go when I'm treated unfairly like that. I know intellectually that everyone can be jerky and it's more about their own pain than me. I can keep from exploding back. But then I'm on edge all day and have trouble sleeping. After a day or two it's over, but I wish I could get past it faster. It only seems fair to hand back rudeness, but it really doesn't help and then i have guilt as well as anger to deal with. Perhaps by my next lifetime...

    Postscript

I got home today, and had a message from my Pilates teacher. Letting me know she had put my class sessions on hold until I was better! I called her back, let her know I was fine and wanted to start back next week. She told me my duet partner had told her I was going to be incapacitated for a long time. Dear duet partnet also threw a hissy fit at the studio, because she couldn't get a private session one night. The teacher already knew how she had behaved on the phone to me, and basicly laid down the law, letting her know what was acceptable behavior and what was not.

Long story short - neither one of us has much use for dear duet partner, but we'll finish out the class sessions - then it's private sessions for me!

Well, at least you know that it isn't "just YOU"!! For me, that in itself is a huge relief.

Hey, that's no fair -- since I've only ridden Calaveras 10 years ago, I have no idea what I'm up against. Me thinks the last third is not the easy part, though.

Snapdragen, I'm glad your class has worked out for the best. Hopefully you'll avoid further injuries...
