How wonderful!! What kind of nursing is she planning to go into? Regardless, great nurse (news). Will she be in Boise for Thanksgiving?

The DD accepted a nurse residency position and is moving back to Boise! Whoot, whoot. Have to smile as when she left at 19 she was never coming back. She graduates in 3 weeks and starts the end of January. Of course that means she'll have to bunk with us for a bit but she survived 5 weeks with us last summer so what's a couple more.

Congrats, Sky King. You should be proud. I went to my DIL's pinning ceremony, when she graduated from CSULB a couple of years ago. It was very moving.

Yes to in Town for Thanksgiving, We had a great time. My birthday was Friday and we rode our bikes to a local brewery for Black Beer Friday - too fun.
She will be on the Neurology Floor, working in the stroke unit at St Alphonsus. This residency is a 1 year commitment, then she can apply for a 2nd in critical care (where she thinks she'd like to be in the long run)

My DIL is in critical care and it is very demanding, but she loves it. Great experience. She worked for a year at the health center at my son's college and loved that, too, but she needs lots of hospital experience to eventually become a NP/midwife. She still fills in at the health center on her days off from the hospital, though, and the stories she tells about the lack of knowledge of the students about their bodies and health is frightening; she is only 29, so it's not like she's speaking from the perspective of an old person. Almost as scary as the CCU stories, with people who have multiple, serious issues.
I have the utmost respect for nurses!

It's just amazing how well birds, especially birds of prey are recovering around here. 20 years ago when we moved here seeing a hawk or eagle was a rare treat, now we've got a burgeoning population in the city. Peregrine falcons aren't uncommon and now I'm even seeing hawks. This is a juvenile Cooper's hawk and it sure is beautiful.

That is beautiful, Eden. I see more and more hawks here every year, it's common now to see them sitting on sign posts several times a day... guess it makes sense, we have about a bazillion squirrels running around, must make for a nice smorgasbord.

Amazing photo!
As we've traveled around the country in our RV, we've seen and heard SO MANY HAWKS. I think they are doing pretty well indeed, and for that, I am thankful.

We have hawks around here, but not like that!
So, I feel like my toe/foot is finally coming out the other side. I did tabata this morning, including jumping off of the step, and wore my favorite shoes (kitten heels with a pointed toe) at work. It was the first time in 5 weeks I could actually get the shoe on, without excruciating pain. I am walking normally. I still have some pain, but there has been a noticeable change. I think what I am most concerned with is the effect this all had on my balance on my left foot. I have worked so hard on this and it was trashed. I've been practicing one legged standing things every second I can, including in between my clients. Just 2 weeks before this happened, I was saying how much my balance had improved from hiking. Well, it hasn't affected my riding, but I was getting worried about snow sports, especially snow shoeing, with the weight of my boots and the snowshoes. I think I am going to try and not hike except for easy stuff until the snow comes.

Today is World AIDS Day. Remembering all the friends lost, remembering what we all went through, what we fought for. Realizing that a huge chunk of the American people decided to throw us under the bus... again. It brings the old chant back to the forefront of my mind, ACT UP, FIGHT BACK, FIGHT AIDS! We fought for our lives before, now we'll do it again. Stay strong my friends, we got this.

Hello to all, Have been fighting the blues this week and wanted to say that logging in this morning and reading your posts just lifted my soul. Saw the musical "Beautiful" last night with my sister and she bought me the cd for my birthday so may just have to play it in the shop today.
That's it. The sun is shining and I need to appreciate the small things.

So the other day I took a sick day from work -- had a couple of medical appointments and will lose some accrued sick time on Jan 1 so figured I might as well relax for a change. After the doctor I went shopping to look for Christmas gift ideas. Somehow I managed to mostly spend money on myself, but anyway. I saw these coasters and bought two to use on end tables in the living room. But this morning I decided I wanted to see it when I'm getting ready to face the world each morning, so I put one in the cheerful pink bathroom.
