Hi there !
Sorry I didn't respond sooner -my internet connection was wonky for the last couple of days.
It was really fun ! We were up near the beginning of the Canada Road descent and we got to cheer on the 100 K riders as they zoomed by.
It was so fun being an Institution for a few hours. Every now and then someone would yell out "Hey, it's the skeleton!". I'd often get comments along the lines of "Hey- like your oufit!" to which I'd yell out a cheery "thankyee kindly!".
I tended to call out "ride safe, have fun" - I was toying with yelling out "slow down or die" but I thought I'd opt for the Kinder Gentler Skeleton approach. Plus there was an ominous sign a few yards ahead of where I was standing so I thought maybe a little friendly reassurance was in order.
Not sure if our presence was much help - the folks who knew the route and were comfortable descending fast certainly weren't about to slow down on our account, and the people who were white-knuckle descenders to begin with probably didn't need any additional coaxing to take it cautiously. Well, who knows, maybe we managed to prevent a couple of people from going beyond their abilities. Happily the road was in good shape despite all the rain the day before.
Here's a picture Lee took of me. There was a mask that went with the costume, but it was hot & claustrophobic so it spent most of the time hung over the side view mirror on the Element - you can barely see it in the photo just behind my hand. I opted to wear my trusty CSC cap instead - I thought it looked tres chic with the costume
