    Cycle Oregon!

It's been a long time since I've logged in here on TE - 2012 just wasn't our year- but things are looking up! For starters,we got into Cycle Oregon (and tent service for it too!). Anyone else going? After riding the hottest RAGBRAI on record last summer,I think we can handle anything that eastern Oregon has this September! Tokie

We are going as well! This will be our 3rd cycle Oregon in a row. We grew up in Central Oregon, so it feels like a visit back home. Still hasn't sold out, so I may be in the minority with that view.
Wow, I bet ragbrai was something else!
We are also doing Cycle Greater Yellowstone in August, that ride looks beautiful as well.

Yes, Yellowstone is an incredible place - that should be an unforgettable adventure ! Hope we can meet up during Cycle Oregon - now I just have to heal up a nagging Achilles tendonitis that is keeping off my bike ! I wasn't aware that it hadn't sold out yet- I love that part of Oregon-I'll tell my friend who also assumed that she missed getting in. I'll try to remember to PM you closer to the ride. Tokie

We'd love to do RAGBRAI someday! I heard that last years was quite a cooker, we had a friend whose husband did it. He also mentioned about the monumental storms a few nights, yikes.

Oregon is fabulous, you'll have so much fun. Let us know how the ride goes.

Thanks Apple Tree! I will. Yep, 2012 RAGBRAI was quite memorable-I do love the small towns and people of Iowa. We weathered the storm in our tent-apparently the sherriff drove through the campground telling everyone to evacuate, but many (most?) including us did not hear the announcement. I've never been in a tent before and have it blow almost completely flat the way it did! Tokie

I have the Cycle Oregon page open in my browser. Seriously thinking about it. It's some of the most beautiful parts of the state this year!

Yay for signing up! I think it will be wonderful. It is so funny that last year sold out in 30 minutes or so, and it is still not sold out now 30 days later. It will be a flatter ride than last year, so not quite so much of a sufferfest which is AOK with me.

Packing tomorrow-do you guys think we'll need really warm jackets for around camp, or will layers be ok? I have a nano puff jacket, but seems like too much? (Layers like light fleece and a windbreaker?) so muggy in So Cal this week I'm looking forward to cool nights! Tokie. Oh, anyone have a suggestion for a place to stay in Portland or vicinity-we'll be there Fri night. We'll probably be too tired from 2 eight hour days of driving to enjoy Portland - just a nice place to stay where we don't need to worry about anyone breaking into our car( like they would in San Francisco-don't know about Portland though!)Tokie

oh, I didn't see this before now, but I hope you did bring some fleece. I am over here now and it's not really cold, but it is much colder than it is during the day since it's the desert.

Hi again! Cycle Oregon was so much fun! You might not be surprised to hear that my 3 weeks of training didn't work out too well for my Achilles - after the 3rd day I joined the medical sag van. My husband rode the 40 mile day solo on our tandem and I helped fix tents in disarray in Crane after the sag. The next day he rode a Trek demo bike ( big thank you to Trek- their wrench/ demo gal was very busy and helpful!) and I helped hand out chocolate milks at the finish in Seneca. The last day hubby rode the sag with me. CO is so amazingly well organized, the staff and volunteers are efficient and helpful, and the food was quite delicious! And, I was cold-at night! Our sleeping bags (rated to 55F) did not quite cut it! An official CO stadium blanket solved then problem though. We will be back-hope you all had a great time too! We visited Bend,Lava Land Park and Crater Lake on the drive home. What a beautiful state!

    To Tokie:
I did see a tandem with only 1 person 1 of the days, now I know why! Get all better. It was a great week.
