    Summer colds suck!

I picked up a cold while on vacation. I'm normally the first one to say "don't ride if you're sick", but in this particular instance, everything but my head and throat want to go out. Common sense, however, tells me to stay in, which sucks, because I'd wanted to do a metric sometime this month. Probably not going to happen, especially since I start a new job on Monday.

I'm not sure how to vote on that, either. I did a 12 mile long run about 2 days after getting a thoat/nose cold (maybe 2, 3 weeks ago?), and I did better than I expected. I got really sick about 2 days later but I don't know if that would have happened anyway. Colds are nasty little buggers.

I got a nasty one last year, also while on vacation. The hostess at the bed and breakfast offered me a drop of oregano oil to put under my tongue. She insisted it would shorten the cold. Well, it possibly did, but what a horrible taste! Still, it did relieve the symptoms for a couple of hours at a time.

I tell you what is it with summer sickness this year? I got a stomach bug yesterday and I thought I was going to die. I'm in one piece today, but barely. I think summer sickness is the worst. I can tell you, I"m not on my bike. It's 100F here.

Ugh. Feel better. And at the risk of repeating myself for the umpteenth time, black elderberry extract.

I just use lots of Cold-Eeze when I get a cold, and rest until the exhausted feeling goes away. I used to push through it, but the cold goes away faster if I rest.

I spent half of my honeymoon with some sort of flu...I had fever, chills, and horrid respiratory garbage. I almost certainly caught something on the flight. It should be illegal to get sick on vacation!

Hope you feel better really soon!

I am having the worst cold of my life! Left June 8th on a trip to Minneapolis for a conference. So airport travel. Then 7 days in "foreign" city and climate. 6 of those days sitting in air conditioned conference. Last day I felt "stuffy" with "dry cough". I thought maybe allergies, but also thought--"nope, I'm getting sick". Another plane ride home. Arrive for work (at the hospital) last week, with scratchy throat and dry cough. Survived the weekend but my days off I spent with the worst cough, sneezing, congestion, sinus headache of my life. Actually went to a walk in clinic for "antibiotics" for the sinus infection I was enduring or about to endure. Finally back to work with still a cough and congestion, but MUCH better. I get winded walking 2 flights of stairs! I had not run (or biked) for a week. Vacuumed 1 room of my house--again I was winded! This cold has kicked my butt!

Well, it's my turn. I've been sick for a week now. I think it started while I was out riding my bike last Sunday. I felt utterly miserable with stomach problems and a sinus headache, and really struggled with the heat. Some of that might have been more from a food allergy test I did the night before. But by Monday afternoon I was definitely sick -- exhausted and sneezing with a sore throat. I called in sick on Tuesday.

Luckily, I haven't had any coughing or other lung problems. But I've been really tired all week, and I haven't gotten any exercise. And I'm really bored by now.

I managed to go for a walk tonight, just because I had to get out of the house. I feel okay, so am hoping I've put this behind me.

BTW I tried the Cold-Eeze as usual but this time it really bothered my stomach, so I gave up after a couple of days.
