B: egg white omelete with low salt ham, low fat Colby cheese, salsa, an orange, coffee
S: before ride, slice of Ezekial raisin bread with soy nut butter
38.5 mile moderately hilly ride, ate a Luna Bar and a bottle with Nuun, and stopped for coffee about 5 miles from home.
L: I was starving after the ride. Had a turkey sandwich on Ezekial bread, with tomato and mustard, cole slaw, blueberries
D: glass of red wine, 1.5 tuna burger patties on a tomato and the last of the veggie soup i made on Monday. 2 squares dark chocolate

The children have given me some kind of stomach virus so my appetite has been pretty tiny the last few days. today I had some white rice with avocado and sardines around lunch time. I'm not interested in eating much else

It's keeping me off the bike too and I meant to do 170 miles this weekend! Drat!

    Today:

B: Usual steel-cut oats with blueberries, egg whites, skim and coffee
    S: 1/2 Power Bar
    20 mile ride
L: roasted chicken breast sandwich on sprouted wheat bread, gouda, skim milk
D: roasted fennel, small sweet potato, kale, roasted chicken breast. 1 beer
    S: strawberries

Each week I try to find a new veggie I've not had before and this week it was Fennel. I don't think it roasted quite long enough, but I think I will try it again. Is it worthwhile to do anything with the stems and leaves? I did keep them, if nothing else I can use them in the stock pot

Oh yes, I sliced into my palm when slicing the Fennel bulb lengthwise Thankfully my tetanus shots are up to date...there has to be a better way of slicing the bulb. I've a 38 mile ride planned tomorrow so hopefully the wound won't get in the way.

I generally slice fennel horizontally. Just the bulb part.
B: whole wheat bagel, low fat veggie cream cheese, lox, tomato, an orange, coffee
L: left over "taco" salad mix of spicy ground turkey and cilantro, veggies, sauteed in a whole wheat tortilla, blueberries
S: nuts and cranberries, some cheese
D: I went out to a local winery/restaurant that i hadn't been to in 20 years. No exercise at all yesterday; I felt awful and ditched the 5K I was supposed to do as it was pouring out, I couldn't breathe, and I was aching all over. By the time I went out, the aches had left, but I'm still not 100%.
I ate a lot. Slice of bread and apple butter, 2 glasses of red/blueberry wine, a couple of crostini and goat cheese/grapes, swordfish with tapenade on a bed of risotto (I ate half of the risotto), tea and a couple of tastes of DH's dessert.
I was starving yesterday and since my weight was way down Friday, I ate a lot more bread than usual. I think my body is reacting to the increased exercise. Weight is up 2 lbs. today, but it should even out.

Thanks for the fennel tips, Crankin and Reesha.

    Today:
B: 3 egg whites, steel-cut oats with almonds and blueberries, skim milk, coffee
L: grilled banana-peanut butter sandwich on Ezekiel bread (love this, I only allow it before a long ride)

40 mile windy bike ride - at least the way out was It was fun coming home! During the ride I had one bottle of Heed, 2 shot blocks, 1/2 Power bar

Post-ride snack: rest of Power bar, skim milk - and more than a few sweet potato tortilla chips - I was hungry...
D: skinless roasted chicken breast, remainder of the roasted fennel (after roasting it further), roasted kale chips, 1 slice sprouted wheat bread. Lots of water, strawberries

Crankin, your taco salad sounds yummy, will have to try it! Sounds great for post-ride or after a hard workout.

Way short of my calorie goals for a longer ride day but after that first hour or so I just don't feel like eating... Considering some spicy hot chocolate before bed, probably better for sleeping than a beer...

    Today:

Usual breakfast: mixed egg whites with whole egg, steel cut oats with blueberries and PB, skim milk, coffee

    10.5 mile ride to work

    S: 1/2 power bar
L: sprouted wheat bread and roasted skinless chicken breast, strawberries, no-fat Greek yogurt
S: rest of the power bar

40 minute weights workout after stretching/foam rolling
    30 minute Bosu class
    Power Bar (protein) before...
13.5 mile rather windy ride home

Almost 8:00 when I got home and it really is far too late to eat - but was hungry! Scrambled a couple of eggs, one slice of sprouted wheat toast, a bit of cheese. Still hungry but it is almost bed-time. Way below calorie targets for the day - I am slipping back into bad old habits My goal is to get at least 400 calories at my three meals and make up the difference with snacks...

Catrin, it's OK to eat that late! You had a lot of exercise. I know that insatiable feeling when you've done a lot in one day. If I don't eat when i get that feeling, I wake up in the middle of the night so hungry that I have to get out of bed and eat.
B: egg whites, salsa, low fat Colby cheese, an orange, coffee

S#1 nuts and cranberries, S#2 at about 5:30: slice of raisin Ezekial bread with soy nut butter
D: salad with whole wheat orzo, chick peas, red pepper, onion, goat cheese

Thanks for the feedback, I am never sure about eating more than a snack close to bed - but I knew my body needed something substantial.

Interestingly enough I woke up after midnight, well I always do that, but when I got out of bed and walked across my apartment my quads were just on fire They are fine today, and I DID stretch and foam roll when I got home - perhaps bed came too quickly after my efforts?

Regardless, it was probably too much to do all that work at the gym and then ride in the wind for an hour to get home. I won't do that again without cutting out either the weights or the Bosu class. Both today and tomorrow are rest days as I've a 3 day weekend of mountain biking coming so I want to go into it fully rested and with fresh legs (and neck). I don't like taking 2 rest days in a row, but it seems wise.

Yes indeedy It has been 8 full months since my neck injury on the mtb trail, and I have managed to get in 3 easy rides on a very basic beginners loop recently (my only local option). After the Women's Clinic I will be more confident about riding by myself in Brown County State Park - but it's been so long that it seemed good to do the clinic first.

So, to get this somewhat back on topic, I am considering what kind of fuel to take with me for 3 days
