I will pick up a tennis ball or two, they can't be expensive. Massage just won't fit into my budget for a time, but it does make sense. There is also a new device for myofacial release...one of the trainers at my gym showed it to me the other day. It has some odd tool-like name.

It is a square stick with 4 balls of different sizes, 2 on either side of both ends. The balls can come off to be used by themselves or you can leave them on to roll up your spine; it is quite the multi-purpose tool. Very interesting and I wish I could remember the name of it. The trainer will send me a link to a site where it can be purchased with a discount that she can provide me. I suspect I can't afford it either but that will eventually change.

Part of my problem is that I never get sore like the average person. For some reason, even after the hardest of workouts, I am never sore the next day (unless it is a deadlift that I've not done for some time). This makes it easier for me to over-do things without realizing it.

When I said massage, I meant self massage with the ball. Sorry I wasn't clear.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

    Body Wrench

THIS is it, this is a seriously useful and multi-purpose massage/release AND workout tool. Those balls come off or you can leave them on. One of the trainers at my gym had me try hers the other day and she instructed me in how to use it. I didn't know I had sore glutes until she had me use it there

It isn't inexpensive so it isn't in the cards for me right now, but I need to eventually get this. I don't think I would use this too much for exercises, except perhaps on a cold winters evening at home, but it is a serious myofacial release tool.

For now it will be an inexpensive massage ball, and if that does the job I will stick with that

    Duh!

I figured out the problem, no wonder my leg is complaining! Looking back at my logs I just realized that I've ridden, lifted weights, hiked, or some combination of the three for the last 12 days in a row! No wonder my old over-use injuries are starting to complain

Yes I am under serious stress right now, from multiple directions, and exercise is my stress relief but that is overkill. I was looking forward to riding tomorrow but it might should be a rest day as well? Perhaps just an easy spin... I really just lost track of how much I was doing.

Hammie and sartorius feel much better today, but quads feel like I rode hard today...I will just play it by ear tomorrow and see how my legs feel. I really don't want to take 3 days off in a row...

Poor you, it's rotten when you get pain like that.

A while back I had severe pain radiating down from my hip down along the outside of my thigh and it was called greater trochanteric pain syndrome!

Took quite a while to finally ease up 100%

    Hope your pains heal soon.

Thanks Clock, I think it is improving. While I may not have over-done things in the actual activities, not taking rest days I think caused my old over-use injuries to flare. The hammie is much better and the sartorius is easing.

I hope you are feeling better these days? I've missed seeing you here though I may have missed your posts.
