You can tell her, "get a job (babysitting/yardwork) and pay for them yourself". It doesn't stop them growing but it teaches them a lot of things and helps your wallet too.

there is also a crime scene lab tech in the tv series NCIS who sports those and similar bizarre footwear and clothing. Just sayin, they cover the body, you won't fall off of them, they are a solid color with no obscene prints or logos. They could do worse and they probably offer good ankle support.

Oh, they come in colors. One of my girls has them in hot pink. Again, I don't find them offensive. I just want to know why they have become popular. Ten year olds are not exactly fashion innovators and to have 4 of them start wearing them pretty much at the same time, made me wonder if I was missing something in pop culture.

I know a girl with those. She mentioned that they take a looonnnnng time to lace up. I only saw her wear them once.

Aw come on, I know I'm not the only one here old enough to have worn laced SUEDE knee boots at that age.

The ones my kids are wearing have zippers in the back.

10 year olds are wearing them with skirts or skorts.

I am missing everything in pop culture!

My guess is that they saw them in a:
    Music video
    TV show
    Mall display
    Magazine ad

I have a 2 pairs of the normal height high tops, so I think I'll pass on these.

I just did an image search to see if there were any pictures of famous people in them who might have pushed the trend--but then it occurred to me that I wouldn't recognize any of the famous people anyway.

Nordstrom sells them and so (of course) does Zappos.

One of my girls was absolutely darling this week. She's African American and had her hair in this really high ponytail and it was all poofy. We're a uniform school so she had on a short khaki colored skirt or skort with a crisp white shirt and a pink cardigan and some pink thing wrapped around the pony tail. Pink is not a school color, but we give them a pass on warm clothing. It's our second year of uniforms and we're easing parents into the outer wear. And then these boots in black. She looked so cute. She's a neat kid, so I may be a little biased. Fabulous writer with a very distinct personality to her writing...

But those don't work with skorts and skirts. Trust me, you'll look stupid.

I look pretty stupid most of the time, but yah, that would be beyond my normal level of stupidity.

I can think of a lot worse things they could be wearing. Not my style, but I certainly don't have any problems with them. I'd rather have a pair of regular old high tops. (And preferably from LA Gear.)
