My daughters both swim and I have them wash their hair every day they swim. When they get in the car after swim practice the entire car smells like chlorine so I want it off of them. I have heard two ways to help prevent chlorine build up in hair. The first is wet hair completely before putting on swim cap so less chlorinated water drenches hair and the second put leave in hair conditioner in hair before putting on cap. Also rinsing hair with vinegar gets rid of the green.

There's a new sign up at the one pool I go to, that tells how to avoid that chlorine smell. According to it, chlorine attaches to fragments of both hair/skin and soap, so they recommend:

    1. washing well with soap before swimming, and rinsing off well
    2. showering without soap (and shampoo I presume) afterwards.

I can't vouch for the chemistry, and I don't know if it helps against green hair, but I do know that I smell a lot less of chlorine once I started following these tips!

I don't have fine hair, it's course and curly, but my usual baking soda followed by vinegar gets the chlorine out without making my hair frizzy the way shampoo & conditioner does.

I used to use Ultra-Swim. Got rid of the chlorine smell too.

Too bad they don't make eye drops.
