I can't believe you just posted that! I'm setting mine up right now, watching youtube videos on how to do it, and wondering the same thing. I'm guessing it's for the calories burned.

So, I just bought an Edge 500. I'm setting it up now.
Does anyone know what it does with the bike weight and body weight information?
I'm asking because my weight varies by day and by time of day, and the bike weight varies based on what's attached to it and in the bags/water bottles.
(I searched the garmin user forum and didn't find any threads about weight. And I can't seem to log into the forums, or Garmin Connect for that matter, because it keeps saying it doesn't recognize my username/password even though I am logged into myGarmin. Also it keeps telling me I need to install a plug-in even though I've installed it already. Anyway.)
May or may not be important: I'm using a speed/cadence sensor on my bike but will not be using a heart rate strap or a power meter.
Thanks!!

I'm thinking either calories or maybe something related to the power meter.
I'm using a Bontrager Duotrap speed/cadence sensor, which is made to snap into the chain stay on my Madone. I think everything is set up right and ready to go -- I'll test it tomorrow.

I've only had a chance to do a few rides with it, but so far I like it.
I've uploaded the rides to Garmin Connect, created a couple of courses and downloaded them to the Edge. However I haven't used the courses yet.
I don't know anything about the 310XT so I don't know what's different with the Edge 500.

I just got one last week and my bike mechanic guy (who uses one too) set it up for me, but it has been completely wrong on the calories burned; for a two-hour ride today it said I burned 1300 calories. It said almost 4500 for a century ride last weekend, also not accurate. It also gave me a reading for my heart rate info today, but I didn't have the heart rate monitor hooked up! Anyone know why it would be doing these things and how to fix?

With the Edge connected to your pc, select the course you want to download by clicking "View Details." Then you will see "Send to Device" in the upper right corner.
I want to be able to compare my speed on different segments of certain courses to see how I improve over time. That will be my next thing to figure out. I saw something in the manual about it, now I just need to find the time to read it more carefully.

The first time I wanted to upload ride info to Garmin Connect, I couldn't find the "upload" button. And I find myself clicking on icons just to see what they do. It's not the most user-friendly site.
