    My First Single-Speed!

Okay. So my friend Karl comes into several frames in my size. So I casually go to look at them. LOL. Yeah, I went home with two. Only one seemed a good candidate for a Single Speed conversion. The other might be too far gone.

Here it is in all it's glory! I still need a name, though.

Turned out nice. The crank arms are Shimano 600 (New Old Stock) that my LBS mechanic just gave to me. Turned out great.

There is a very special place in my heart for single speeding. The simplicity, the silence. The burn.

    Congratulations and enjoy.

I am in love with my single speed. I never thought I would love it so much, I pick it from the stable more than I ever thought I would.

Love! I also choose the SS over others in the stable on a regular basis. We had a series in our Cross races here - I raced SS at all of those!

Ooh very noice. I ride a Fuji track bike that I run as a singlespeed. Mine's a child's version though, with 650c wheels. Wish I could get coloured tyres for it too.
Lots to learn, but I'll get there.

I'm seriously looking at cheapo single speeds (something I can lock up downtown, you know?)

I'm not having much luck, and I've been thinking of going the conversion route...any thoughts? I'm not sure what the draw backs are.

And your bike is super cute, too!

My son had a marin that was converted to a SS for commuting and it was perfect, so perfect someone broke into his truck and stole it When he gets his tax return he is going for a surly steamroller, with the SS conversion rather than the fixie. The DH rides a surly cross check as his single speed and loves it, DD is on a Handsome Devil but for me, with my knee, I need all the gears

Thanks! Gotten lots of compliments riding around!

First off, if your bike has 27'' wheels it's impossible to get alloy wheels for it. You're stuck with steel rims. Kind of bland but works. I happened to find a bike with about 4mm of the brake pads that could move downward to accomodate 700c wheels. Thus the colored tires.

I went nuts with the color. Turned out better than I hoped. Cable crimps are green, so are the valve caps, to kind of bring the bar tape into theme.

For the most part, it's a great option. I feel more comfortable locking this up than my Surly or 520. However, "Creepers gonna creep" and a dude approached me unlocking from a local pub and asked me where he could, "Get a bike like that." I told him to, "Build his own." and told him about my local cycle project then bid him "Adios," and high-tailed it home.

I like all the customization I can do on my single-speed. And I love to coast. Haters can suck my b*lls (metaphorically speaking). LOL.

I say look for a frame that fits you and do it. I love mine. Also, it works different muscle groups than my geared bike. Different parts of me are sore...yea!

    That's sweet! Love the blue.

Hmm name, maybe True Blue, or Skyler. The blue reminds me of wide open freedom, like the horizon, where the sky touches the earth.

    Enjoy!

I like the blue tires, but they're just cheap Taiwanese tires. I can't find any blue puncture resistant fixie tires. *cries*

I found some green ones though. So, eff it. They're on their way. So now black and green - dual compound puncture resistant tires will go on the "SS Fuji".

I've got the Fuji SJ-10 Set-up as a geared bike but I'm almost tempted to set it up as single-speed now. LOL. Oh gosh. I need to stop. This year has been rough so far and fixing these up has brought me joy.

Thanks for the name suggestions. I like em! I know a Skylar though, and I wouldn't want him to get a big ego. LOL. I'm ruminating on the meeting of sea and sky, however. I like that. Very elemental.
