One thing you can do to keep momentum in a tight corner is pedal intermittently - backpedal to re-orient your crankarm position, and then pedal through but stop before you get to the point of potential overlap. Kind of like ratcheting a socket wrench.

I often do this for balance reasons regardless of toe overlap.
This is exactly the technique that I use on my cross bike in switch backs. It takes a little learning but works very well.
