Aw! I hope you feel better and that your other friends are more sensitive! I have grown apart from my friends that have kids too because it's all they want to talk about (which I understand-- but they aren't interested in what I'm up to anymore as a result). That's crummy!

Dear Self,
It's night skiing for heaven's sake, with the girls, on groomed runs. Your leg will be totally fine, quit stressing out about it.

Dear Cosmos -
So you decided that the fickle finger of fate was up for my little sister's FIL, the one senior adult that was stable in her family's life. That just stinks. So could you please be gentle with them while they get through this crisis? Please? And then maybe go easy on them for a while?
Sign me,
Big Sister who can't do squat to make it all better this time
Beth
Thanks for all the hugs. You guys are great.
You know, it's really hard to stay close to my old friends just because we don't have the same things in common anymore, but it's not like we stopped liking each other. I don't know, maybe my BC news freaked them out more than they let on. Who knows.

I think sometimes we let our guilt about having fallen out of touch with someone prevent us from reaching out when something "big" happens, be it an illness, a death or a major life change. That, and some people just underestimate how much these gestures mean in difficult times. We convince ourselves that something like a card or an email asking how you're doing doesn't matter in the grand scheme of what you're facing. But as you know, it does....

Dear body,
After 7 weeks of hard work, THANK YOU for finally shedding some poundage. I know that I've been gaining muscle and losing fat, but that number going down does help keep me going, especially since my body composition sensor doesn't work at all. :grr:

Red, while D was in the hospital, his friends couldn't get enough of him. Now.... almost no one calls. Kind of strange. Cancer is a scary word.

The DH is getting better slowly still. The trip to Hawaii was really good for him, he ate LOTS and LOTS of fresh Hawaiian fruits, including nuts and avocados. He didn't do a lot, (got plenty of walking in ) while I swam every day. Towards the last two days, I finally got him to come down and play in the tidal beds with me; where all sorts of critters (including big green turtles) were waiting.
We went on a 10 mile bike ride Sunday; back in Seattle, and it was tough for him, but it was a perfect ride if you don't count the fact that we stopped suddenly because he hyperventilated coughing and had to get my son to rush ahead and get the truck to take us home. He still has lots of issues around coughing and nausea, which makes it hard for him to eat enough to gain much weight.
D went to PT for the first time yesterday, and they gave him one heck of a schedule. This is huge, because before that, the only exercise he's been doing is biking and walking, with no attention at all to his poor upper body. He's smiling more. I'm tanned and freckled. I swam in the ocean almost every day in Hawaii and only used sunscreen once.
