The AIDS Ride~on TV "Seven Days to End AIDS"

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'll probably end up on the cutting room floor but...

Logo TV, MTV's LGBT channel will be airing a 7-part made for TV movie about the AIDS ride (note, if you check their website for times it says it's a race, we've alllllll been e-mailing them "dude, it's a ride, not a race").

check for show times on but starts Monday

I'll probably end up on the cutting room floor but there was one moment I was filmed for sure.

On talent night (MC'd by Leah Delaria, and she was pretty outrageous) there was a bad baritone rendition of Old Man River. I'm just sorry but he was flat.

Little known TREK420 trivia, I have perfect pitch so off-key music hurts! Nothing worse than flat baritone.

Anyway I don't need to tell y'all how important stretching and range of motion is when you ride and note to our TE riders if you're not riding, sleeping, eating or peeing....stretch. So I started doing some Yoga and was aware suddenly.... WTF there are cameras all around me...front back side....nothin' to do but keep stretching.

so talent night, look for the old gal doing Yoga in tights. black sweatshirt and cap

...or any shot of a gal with a mermaid on her pink helmet.

BTW the rest of talent night ranged from hilarious to ribald to very moving. You have to be at least 18 to ride but we had a young rider who skipped her high school graduation to be with us. She sang the national anthem and you just had to be there as riders and crew stood and sung along. Still gives me goosebumps.

I think someone from her school came and presented her with her diploma!

I get Dishnetwork which does not carry Logo (or OLN, so guess who's switching to Dishnetwork before July?). Spazzdog is taping all 7 episodes for me, Logo's available on Comcast and Dishnetwork. Hmmm, house party for our TE riders?

    two thumbs way up!

It's touching, sad, funny, so nice to see the scenery and riders.

I saw Bikegoddess in a scene on Day 1!!!

They show us starting out and there she was, standing in the pedals and passing someone in the first block of the ride

Funny moment in the theatre, they profile/follow an HIV+ rider, he's young, in his 20's and comments "I want to do this ride now so when I'm in my 40's and can't ride...."

Explosion of laughter behind me from the row of late 50's early 60's Pos Ped riders looking strong and fabulous.

If I was the editor at that comment cue the shot of rider Bert, still riding strong at 80+, or Bikegoddess speeds in, leaps off her bike, takes off the helmet fwoosh, grey hair.

I was disconcerted by mixing up scenes, like riders arriving at camp on Day 1 (Aptos) then a scene of setting tents up....pretty sure shot in Ventura which is day 6.

But if you haven't done the ride you won't notice that.

TE gals may find subtitles with explanations like "a Century is a 100 mile ride" irritating but this is meant for the non-cycling public.

I also hope they profile riders who have done the ride many times. So far mostly 1st time riders interviewed.

    But...over all, pretty good.

Catches much of the flavor of why we ride this and other rides.

K, so there is more than 1 episode? I taped it and it seemed like there should be more. Cable info doesn't say if it is episode 1, 2, etc. Just seemed like the hour I saw only showed days 1,2,3,4.

    Anyone know.

AGC, there should be 6, I don't know why not 7 but I heard 6, maybe they combine two days. Spazzdog is DVR'ing it for me since I have Logo'less and OLN'less Dishnetwork.

    Guess who's switching in July?

I noticed that they did not mention the infamous "extra showers" at Aptos when the sprinkler system went off under our tents at zero dark thirty. Probably because the language on tape was too much for even Logo to air

I really wish I could see it but no Logo or OLN on my cable system.

If someone is interested in burning a second copy we could do a TE Share thingy where we watch 'em and pass 'em on to the next person in the queue?

So far we have Melody doing the Tivo to CD thing, Spazzdog is DVR'ing but I do not know if she can transfer to CD. I also may be able to get copies from some of the riders, so when it's over we'll figure out if we can get a copy going around.

Or.....get popcorn and pick a rainy day to watch.

Actually I'm dumping it to DVD. I've got the first episode recorded. One of the things I can do is bring a few copies (hopefully I'll remember!) to the pre-cindy dinner and pass them out. Word of caution. These are burned copies so not everyone's DVD player will play them but typically a computer can if you have DVD viewing software on it.

I also saw that Logo was playing "100% Woman", the documentary of Michelle Dumaresq so I'm dumping that to disk right now. I thought it was really well done and I'm cheering for Michelle.

We've also been dumping what we have of Paris-Nice. I think we're going to record as much of this season's cycling as possible.

Melody, I'd love a copy, let me know what the CD's cost.

Also, yep, I saw that they are showing the documentary about our own TE gal Michelle. Dang, I'm missing that too. 'chelle if you're lurking, how's the training going?

OK, on my list of things to do, dump Dishnetwork. I can't miss this stuff.

Sure. I believe they're less than a buck a piece but I don't remember now. I haven't bought any in a while and I still have a couple spindles of 50 to go through before I need to buy any more.
