His advise is better to go into the race undertrained than do the 20 miles and not be able to race at all.
Oak, funny you say that about the yoga. That's one thing that seems to help.
What a drag! I've had ITB and piriformis issues from riding, but not running. Thankfully, the ITB issues resolved themselves when I went from a triple crank to a double. And the piriformis issues got lots better just from some basic stretches before, during and after rides. I sure hope your PT can get you sorted out in short order.
