I have had the same thing happen on some high end Bontrager tires I have. It seems to be cosmetic, to me. I had a guy at the LBS look at it, and he said it might increase the possibility of a flat if something flew up and hit the side of the tire. I'm not going to replace them until I have enough miles to justify it.



It looks OK and I've noticed that the conti 4000's don't even have this webbing. I hate to blow out in the middle of nowhere.
