Know yourself: The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Thread

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I know that not everyone appreciates personality tests, but I absolutely love the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator method (MBTI) because of how much it has helped me overcome weaknesses and to understand those around me better.

I also love to know where others fall in this spectrum as well.

Here is one of the better MBTI tests I've seen because your type is all based on a sliding scale, and this test allows you to answer on a sliding scale rather than just 'yes' or 'no'.

    http://similarminds.com/jung.html

For those unfamiliar, MBTI, the wikipedia article is fairly comprehensive:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-B...Type_Indicator

I am an ENFP. It means I am serious about externally expressing my feelings and that I can be a bit of a flake at times. ENFPs have a hard time listening to others, although they may be sincere. I have the long-term ADD of ENFP: I like to dream big for no good reason whatsoever and change my situation often to keep things interesting.

I'm the kind of person who likes to, ummmm influence/guide the outcomes of these type of things (I find the questions to generally be kind of transparent, I guess). The last time I had to do one - it was a work thing when I was at the VA, it was some sort of 4 quadrant thing. I got my circle right smack in the middle on the cross hairs......

I wonder what that says about me

Yeah, I think also the more you know about MBTI, you can figure out your result without ever taking a test. At this point I can type friends before they've taken the test mostly by just knowing them and their habits.

I feel like ENFPs have a strong tendency to be very outwardly immature and I think back to my dark days as a college lady and know it is true. My psychologist friends now tell me I'm the most mature ENFP they know yay? I had to take the time to learn to listen properly, to recognize that not everyone needs to talk out their feelings to process them, and to settle myself when I get antsy to change my life around 180 degrees.

I'm not sure what the 'name' is for ENFP. maybe the advocate? Different sites have different names for the types.

Well, everything is a sliding scale. The behavior though reminds me of either ENTP or INTP

ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population.

Do I get a cape for "Guardian of Time-honored institutions"? I see myself standing on the marble (they have to be marble) steps, cycling kit, fists on hips, with my cape flapping in the breeze

Not a big fan of personality tests since a lot of the questions are vague, like "are you introverted?". That depends on the situation. My DH is far more introverted than I am, so he would say I wasn't.

I was surprised when the results came up as ISTB. Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Perceiving. Not sure how to describe it, but an online search nailed it almost perfect except for being athletic. I'm about as graceful as a hippo.

However; I've always wanted to be athletic and cycling has helped. I always wanted to ride a skateboard, go snowboarding, skiing, but the opportunities were never there and my back would never allow it anyway. So does that count as athletic? LOL.

    Interesting.

ESTP - "Promotor". Action! When present, things begin to happen. Fiercely competitive. Entrepreneur. Often uses shock effect to get attention. Negotiator par excellence. 4.3% of total population.

The questions seem so weird, as Bethany notes, but the result seems pretty on target. I'm a professional mediator and spend my days negotiating; I started my own firm 2 years ago. Yeah, I'm competitive.

Heh - that was funny. I was taking it and feeling like I was being entirely too wishy-washy in my responses even though they accurately reflected how I felt about each question.

    So my result was this:

ESTJ - "Administrator". Much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength. 8.7% of total population

    Which is pretty spot-on accurate.

But when I looked at this:

    Extroverted (E) 52.78% Introverted (I) 47.22%
    Sensing (S) 52.94% Intuitive (N) 47.06%
    Thinking (T) 60% Feeling (F) 40%
    Judging (J) 52.63% Perceiving (P) 47.37%

I WAS being wishy-washy! I'm pretty close to middle of the road for most of these. Interesting. Perhaps that's why I often get told that I should have been a diplomat?

ENTJ - "Field Marshall". The basic driving force and need is to lead. Tend to seek a position of responsibility and enjoys being an executive. 1.8% of total population.

I've tried to stop being a boss and live happily as a worker bee, but every single time I end up getting promoted to a very high level... whether I want to our not. Guess it's personality based.

INTJ - "Mastermind". Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models.

I've taken various versions of this test many times (the full one, professionally scored, twice and lots of shorter online versions) since my senior year in high school and have tested every single time as an INTJ. Know yourself, indeed.
