I'm documenting every conversation, and I have plenty of photos.

    Dear Power Company,
Any day now...hate to bother you, but I sure would like to stop eating out every day. But until the power comes back on and I can put things in my fridge, you're costing me an arm and a leg. I can't imagine how families are coping with this cost burden.

the homeowner is responsible for taking prudent responsible action, whatever reasonable action they can.
if they denied your claim, you did exactly the right thing to contact the insurance commissioner's office.

you might be able to do some temporary shoring up? according to my insurance adjuster husband you have done everything right.

your policy is most likely only covering the cost of removing the tree from the building and damage to the house. they won't pay to haul the tree away even. and only if it hits the house

for them to imply that you are negligent is disingenuous on the part of your insurance company but since there is no damaged covered property it makes sense that it is denied.

he says the customer service of your insurance is really bad.

and that was good to contact the insurance commissioner.

((((Tulip)))). What a horribly frustrating situation. You can't win. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Ugh, Tulip, that's awful. If I knew any tree-cutters in Richmond I'd send 'em your way first.

My dad's house is still out of power too, but he's on the Powhatan/Chesterfield line and they're always the last to get it back. Unfortunately they're on well water so are out of self-supplied water too. He said he was pretty surprised that the ritzier areas (like near the country club of VA) were still out. Seems to be a pretty random process of restoring it this time.

Dear Tree Down The Street That Fell On A Live Wire And Caught Fire And Exploded With Much Panache At 2AM Jolting Me And My Neighbors Out Of Bed And Cutting Power To Everyone Including Those Who Actually Had Their Power Restored Days Ago,

    THANKS!!

You put us at the top of the power company's list and by 10:30 am, we all have power!

    Now to go grocery shopping...

    Dear Tree Company,
I sure hope you get out here today like you said you would. I thought for sure that last night's explosion was my tree deciding to crash through my little house. So did my neighbors, who came running to rescue me. But my tree is still there, hanging out and swaying in the breeze.
