This morning was my worst race ever. It was 80 F and very humid, yuck. The first mile was alright, about 8:10, but then I wilted. I kept getting nauseous, walking until I felt better, then running again, over and over. Ended up doing the 5k in 29:25, more than 5 minutes off my PR. But I finished...

At least next week is supposed to be cooler...

Did my longest run ever today. 6.67 miles. Alone. Just me and my Sony. Okay, so I walked some of it. But it was nearly 80 degrees (26.7 C) at 7 a.m. with humidity levels at about the same. And it had twice the elevation gain of my previous distance record of 6.5 back in December.
So I'm not fast but at least I did it.
I hope to be in decent shape come the Du in 2 weeks.

Did an impromptu 5K tonite, basically walked up to the registration table and was running about 10 min later haha I guess the spontanaiety of it didn't give me time to really "think". It was a good run despite the rain, but if I'm running in La in July at night and in the rain isn't a bad way to do it haha Some of the "hill" training that I've been doing transferred, I felt more at ease at a faster pace than normal, however I did have some lower back pain and some knee pain, but I believe that all stems from my shoes being shot! definitely time for a new pair. I have 2wks before my Du so I'll start tapering soon, we've had a lot of rain the last few weeks which means i havent put in many bike miles but I think I'll be fine..

7rider, which Du are you doing?

It's called "Du the 2" in Howard County, Maryland.
2 mile run, 26 mile bike, 4 mile run.

I did the course on Sunday - 2-26-2. (which meant two days in a row running for me....a first)
    It was brutally hot.
Run 1 was okay. I went off with a friend of mine and we run at about the same pace (that is: slow). I told her ahead of time that it would be a "drop" ride - as I'm faster than her on the bike and I wanted to do the course at near-race pace. And drop her I did, but I also realized that, without a flat section of road, the course doesn't really lend itself to the TT bike (I think), so I'd like to try it again with my road bike and see how it goes.
I was off on Run2 when I saw my friend coming in on the bike.
Run 2 was awful. The hazy sun really heated up the pavement, and there really isn't any shade to speak of on the course. I watched 4 others pass me and leave me in their dust as I walked a bit, jogged a bit, and nursed my water bottle. I didn't do the full 4-mile run 2. I forgot my Camelbak bottle holder, so I was low on water. I'm certain I could have done the 4 miles with support (i.e., water stops) and more fluid. It would have been ugly and slow, but I'm pretty confident I can do it.

That's cool that you got to do a trial run of the course. I'm doing the B Quick Duathlon http://www.trifind.com/re_42767/BQuickDuathlon.html 2 mi run 18 mi bike 3.1mi run

weather permitting tomorrow I'll do a mock race of my own, not on the course though since I live about an hour away from where the race is being held. I did a mini-brick (10mi bike/2mi run) yesterday and it took me forever to get warmed up on the bike. The run however felt pretty good, even in my running shoes that in plan to replace tomorrow because they have way too many miles on em and are causing some pain.

Best wishes to ya! I'm sure you'll rock it!
