I'm doing lots of work in the early days this week, in the hopes that I'll have more outside time at the end of the week with the (slightly) cooler weather.

I'm sitting here in a wool shirt and thick sweater and sweatpants. I'm so tired of being COLD.

the one day it got hot like that (2 years ago?) I rode to work and back. 4 miles each way, very exciting, it was 104 when I got home. maybe you should do short rides?

WOW- you guys are sweltering. We normally have 10 days above 100 a summer. We are on day 21 at over 100- and the 10 day forecast doesn't have us any less than triple digits. For crying out loud-it was 110 on Saturday- the hottest July day in over 100 years of records. This heat is insane. I rode at 6:30 am on Sunday, but it was 100 when I finished at 11:30. I can't go out for my long training rides in the dark at 4 am.
We're in OK, not AZ- but I think the state is confused. This extreme heat is killing me.
I'm trying to just grin and bear it. Stick it out. I've been doing my weekday rides at 5:30- just as the sun is coming up- before work. I'd rather sweat to death than die of boredom on the trainer.

Hope it cools down for ALL of us soon. Until then, I hope you can find a way to ride and not die of heat exhaustion.

I think it's the air quality I'm struggling with more than the heat (which is bad enough when you're not acclimated to it, which none of us here are - it's been three days of 90° and three days of 70° since June). Heat = ozone = shortness of breath.

For me, that's just too hot to ride in. We hit 100 over the weekend and it was oppresive. I got up early and rode in the early morning and was off the bike before it got real bad. I live on a lake it it was too hot to even go out and swim. I either ride early or late on days like that. I just can't take the heat and humidity. Some people are not bothered by it, like my sister, she enjoys the heat. We're all different.

Notice that I'm not the one complaining. Lived in hot country. I rather enjoy the fact that I was able to sit out at noon and not break a sweat. (but I'd like to be a little warmer)

It got up to 106 this afternoon. At 5 PM when I woke up from my name, the weather guy said it was 101 and felt like 110. Holy crap!

So, I didn't ride today (again). I didn't ride yesterday for the same reason. I have a doctor's appt tomorrow at 9, so I would have to get up at a reasonable hour anyhow. I used to get up at 6 every day (work ended on Friday for me) so getting up at 5 to ride doesn't seem unreasonable.

I am NOT NOT NOT a morning person, but my mood will be really bad and my mental health (I wish I was joking) really depends on exercise. My therapist suggested I do whatever I need to to stay focused on my goals today. He's very much right. I have been so happy, so healthy, and really in great shape. I can't let the heat get me down! I will be home in a week and it will get easier (an hour outside of Chicago it is not THIS hot). I am used to riding in 92 degree weather now, but not 106 degree with 86% humidity! My asthma does not tolerate that.

I'm in south Louisiana and have to wait until at least seven in the evening to ride or I'm pretty sure I would just plain die. It's brutal!

Temps in the 60s are plenty warm for me. But then, I'm generally not a fan of of temps beyond the low 70s...that was one of the main reasons why I moved to Seattle in the first place.

It got up to 111 degrees - air temp - here yesterday. We played golf yesterday morning and by the time we had some lunch and got home it was already 105. Sometimes we like to squeeze in a short ride in the afternoons after golf but in this heat, forget it! It's only gotten up to 111 degrees here 10 times in the 130 years they've been keeping records. It's crazy!
