Aquamoose, please don't think we are jumping on you, but riding alone takes quite a lot of fuel, and with your active job in a restaurant your body is likely telling you that you need more food...

    Today:

B: Steel cut oats, scrambled egg whites, skim milk, coffee

1 hour mountain bike ride, during which I had a Stinger Honey Waffle (yummy, these are great).

L: PB and banana sammy on Ezekial bread

1 hour mountain bike ride (just took a break for lunch) during which I had 3 shot blocs (It was HOT)

    Post ride/shower snack: Cliff Bar

Dinner: Roasted skinless chicken breast, sauteed garlic kale, Trader Joe's Harvest Grain mix (couscous, quinoia, orzo, baby garbonzo beans), 1 beer

considering having some strawberries and yogurt for a pre-bed snack

I am also thankful the State Park I was riding in has showers available, even with all of my long road rides, I have NEVER sweated like that on the bike!

Catrin, is that Harvast Grain mix any good? I've had a bag of it for a while but haven't made it yet. I might be near TJ's tomorrow morning; I'll pick some more up if it's good.

Oh dear. Thanks all for your concern, but really I feel pretty healthy honestly. Maybe I am wrong, but well, I have been vegetarian since I was 12, I am 25 now. So I think my body has adapted by this point. I have been on and off vegan since I was 20. Every once and a while I will crave a glass of milk, and I have one, them my stomach hurts, but I fulfilled my craving. My friend is cycle tourist and a fruitarian and he looks so healthy and always says how much energy he has. This probably should be another thread, but if you are interested I am sharing this info with you. I am not saying this is for everyone, and it definitely takes a certain mindset and way of life, but I think it is interesting. As for your comments, I don't take it personally, maybe my judgement is skewed a little, I feel like I eat a lot though. I definitely get 2000-2500 calories a day, even when i was on my fruit kick last week, and I FELT SO clean and energized.

Here is my friends blog if you are interested.

On a second note, I think there is also a fine line that cyclist cross with food an weight since without proper nutrition you cannot cycle freely. And too much you get sluggish. My ex boyfriend was obsessed with everything he ate. He wanted to be at 150 lbs even when his body said he wanted to be at 165. "I go faster up the hills at 150, and then I win more races." He is a semi pro cyclist. Not that i am ANY sort of pro or even semi pro, I dont even race, I just like to ride really fast, a lot, and far. And it is always fun to beat an old man up the hill every once and a while. I think it is finding the balance between mind and body. I applaud all of you who can truly indulge in you favorite flavor ice cream, trust me I wish I could do that with no regrets and pure enjoyment. Maybe someday, but not right now. Although this might all change on my bike ride across IOWA in 100 degree heat in 2 weeks. hehe.

    Ok here we go... Yesterday.
Pre B: HUGE glass of tea, maple syrup and soy milk, banana, apricot
B: Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich
S: peach, plum, 2 nectarines, broccoli, snap peas
(I work at the farmers market on Saturday mornings)
L: big bowl of Quinoa and oats with soymilk and nutritional yeast, one carrot, and popcorn!!!
D: glass of orange juice, 4 slices of french bread, 1/2 potato
Dessert: shot of gin at work with co-workers
    And then I had a stomach ache...lol

    Today:
B: Chocolate (it's that time), tea, honey (I crave honey every morning when I wake up) and soymilk, Apricot, chips and salsa,
    35 Mile bike ride
L: watermelon drenched in salt, lemon, orange, granola
    S: Kombucha, banana
D: juice, bread probably since I'll be at work, arugula salad too probably.

That was a long post. Sorry.

This is the first time I've used it, and it was better than straight couscous. I wanted a different grain to mix things up a bit. It took a little longer to cook than expected, and it took a bit more water than the directions called for. It stuck to my stainless steel pot...but it filled the need. I will probably buy it again, but not on a weekly basis.
