This is good info, thanks! 15 mph limit won't work for me, so I suspect I'll stick to the roadway. Using googlemaps street view, it looks like there's some good side road routes from Bird Key to Siesta Key. I didn't know that the sand was so good at Anna Maria...I'll definitely go there!
Definitely make a stop at Anna Maria ... the sand is so fine it's like walking through cornstarch. And if you fish, let me recommend going to the City Pier and casting out a line using a white crappie jig or snagging a shiner that's so plentiful around the pier. When the Spanish Mackerel are running, you'll have the time of your life. And they're a tasty fish to eat.
Kayaking around the island and through the canals is very relaxing and you're quite likely to spot a manatee either underneath your boat or right alongside of you.
