I made some simple peanut butter dog cookies for the two office dogs and my boyfriend's dog. I'd like to decorate them but the only "dog treat" icing recipes I found online need refrigerated and I'll be flying with some of these. One website suggested for little decorations (all I'm doing) using royal icing or melted yogurt chips. While we grew up allowing the dogs to eat anything but chocolate (duh), I'm not sure about how these guys' owners feel.
Should I bother with a little icing? Or should I just leave them plain?

Can you post your recipe? I have some dog lovers on my list and I make cookie baskets but remembering their buddies would be nice.

I used this recipe
Essentially, 2 c wheat flour, 1 c rolled oats, 1/3-1/2 c peanut butter, and 1 and 1/4 cups hot water. Roll out, use spiffy cookie cutters if you want, bake at 350 for 40 minutes and let sit out to cool overnight.
I really only wanted to decorate b/c I like to do that sort of thingbut leaving them plain is probably the best plan. I just bought cute little snowman ziplocs for them instead.

I have all those ingredients, I know none of these dogs have diet concerns so they will be some happy pups.

Someone also suggested adding in bacon bits. I didn't have any, but I bet dogs would love it!

Thanx for sharing the recipe. I got fancy dog cookie cutters last year and didn't have time to make treats. The recipe I have doesn't have peanut butter in it, and the cookies gave my dog moosebreath. I think I'll try yours.

There is a great book called Pupsnacks with tons of decorated cookie recipes.
