How much coverage for personal belongings?
    20k?

How about the dwelling? This would just be stove, fridge, cupboards and carpet.
    20? 50?

This is all new to me

Do a quick estimate for what it would cost to replace your belongings. Like, how much if all your clothes were destroyed? Furniture? Electronics? Bikes? Any valuables, like jewelry?

For the dwelling, are you talking about just replacement insurance, or liability? I'm responsible for plumbing and wiring within my condo, so if a pipe within my walls bursts or my water heater leaks, I have to pay for all repairs, including any damage to neighbors' units.

Yeah Zen, get it figured out so that you can help me figure it out if I go the condo/townhouse route next summer. My house in Louisiana IS going to sell next spring so that I can buy my own place.

IME, most insurers have some standard formulas they use for different size houses and what' average in possessions. Then if you have special stuff (art, computers, audio, camera etc) they value that stuff separately if it's over the limits.
