The amount of time wasted flailing around, crashing, cutting across other riders' lines.... Heavens! I wanted to yell at the video, "Take 5 seconds to pull on the shoes and yank on the Yankz! It's a time SAVER to put the shoes on first, I swear!"
But the women in the video didn't listen to me...

Wow! My T1 time today (with wetsuit) was 2 mins and I put my shoes on before getting on my bike (I also wear socks - can't go without them!). I would so be yelling at people if I were coming out of transition into that mess!!
Another thing, how short was the swim that there were THAT many people getting their bikes at the same time? I've only done 3 tris, the largest today with 750 people, and I've not had that many people around me when coming out of any transition!! CRAZY!

I've seen triathletes with what looks like riding barefoot. The pedal looks like a huge platform. Can they just ditch the whole idea of shoes and socks?

No more laughing at someone's misfortune! I missed a turn at my race last night and went from 3rd to way off the podium. I also fell AFTER the race near a large group and have a huge bruise on my hip plus scrapes and cuts on my legs and more bruising. Let this be a lesson.![]()

I witnessed something similar to this at a mass start of a cross race last Sunday.
Everyone was fine but one guy ended up as a dns due to some sort of resulting mechanical.
I hate mass starts.

It looks like there might be demand for a tri- clinic in that market.

Ummmm...maybe she should try to put her shoes on, and then clip in??? I have never seen a tri before - and had NO idea how a transition works - I think I will stick to road riding! Looks like utter chaos to me! The sound effects were good too!

I watched my first Tri on TV a couple weeks ago, and I felt the same way about the feet outside the shoes thing. I was watching people take their feet out of the shoes in preparation for the transition to running, a long time before they were to actually start running. There were crashes while going, I imagine about 25+ MPH. Not to mention the power you lose, while not being clipped in. It seems to me, you should keep your feet inside the shoes, go as fast as you can, and worry about the transition when you get there. It really doesn't take much time to open velcro and slide your foot into a new shoe. But, what do I know? I don't do Tri's and I never will!![]()
