And gelato actually has lower calories than ice cream!

"Whereas the typical ice cream has a fat content ranging from fourteen to twenty-five percent, gelato averages between five to nine percent butterfat, a significant difference.

I recently had a strawberry sorbet gelato (sorbeto?) that was so fantastic I couldn't believe it didn't have any cream in it. Of course I know it's not ice cream, but still, I enjoyed it

I've recently discovered that I LOVE Julie's Organic frozen yogurt. Normally I'm a pure ice cream fan, but this stuff is delicious and allows me to feel slightly less guilty. I also find that I can keep it in the house without the burning need to down it all in one sitting (which is a nice change).

Julie's is great..and it's got my name on it so it must be mine! Right?! I've only had their ice cream (delicious) but I would imagine their yogurt is very good, too (although I'm not a frozen yogurt fan).

Gelato is wonderful if you are lucky enough to have it in your area. Sorbetto, too. I spent some time in Sicily and had gelato every single day, sometimes twice! I have rather fuzzy memories of a scoop of lemon sorbetto topped with limoncello. I don't remember the rest.

I'm a convert to coconut milk ice cream (Purely Decadent brand). Way less sugar (sweetened with agave) and calories and so creamy good. And it's pricey enough that I feel compelled to make a pint last.

I usually avoid sugar altogether but sugar-free/low carb ice cream makes me sick (sugar alcohols are not my friend). I love that there's a low-guilt, natural option.

I agree....as a lactard, I was so delighted to find a chocolate ice cream substitute that actually tasted like a treat. I was also very glad to find out that it didn't taste at all like coconut.

I'm lactose intolerant but I take the pills for ice cream. Yogurt is the worst, the lactaid pills don't do squat for it so the smoothie stuff and frozen yogurt is out. The stuff I tried on the ice is the stuff you normally put on ice cream (strawberry, caramel...). Tonight I used the concentrated acai/berry mix and grape juice and that was good and healthier than the topping.

I really want ice cream, but I tend to overdo it. Take two poptarts with icing, and toast till the icing starts to caramelize. Then put several heaps of ice cream (chocolate/peanut butter or pralines and cream), whipped cream, fudge, nuts, sprinkles, caramel... That's how I got fat. I got off 40 lbs and those last 10 are stubborn but I want something cold and sweet.

I LOVE to make ice cream sandwiches with waffles. I use lowfat waffles and ice cream (love Edys) just toast the 2 waffles and put a scoop or 2 between them. Very yummy :-p

I do this too. Try sprinkling a little cinamon on the icecream (vanilla) before making the sandwich - YUM!

(oh and I do this with high protein waffles and low fat frozen yogurt and it's damn close to being guilt free!)

Doesn't that even make it taste better!! I certainly didn't choose it for its lower calories, and if you had asked me before, I would have said it had to have more calories than regular ice cream.
