These are great! I just put a tiny 24" mixte on hold this morning and we'll fix it up for my kids.

Yes. As far as I can tell (Peugeot's are a little hard to date), it's a '74 French made model. The swoopy top tubes were only sold in Europe from what I understand so this made it across the lake at some point.

The rack is off another, much older, Peugeot. Isn't it cool!

The chain guard is unusual, too.

    Is it a 5-speed?

Sandra has a mixte with those top tubes like that. I forget what it is, but I love them! Very nice.

What a lovely mixte! And big kudos to your husband for jumping on the case so quickly when he saw it on CL!

I'm really pleased to see a little info on "swoopy" mixtes, as there is one near me here in south London (UK) which I've been hoping to find some info on. I've posted 3 photos on Flickr - here's a link to one:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/1093886...n/photostream/

The only sticker/decal is the one at the bottom of the seat tube which just says "OIN" (or "DIN" - sorry, should have got a better pic). No idea what that's meant to signify.
This bike hasn't moved for months but I don't think it's abandoned. I might have to leave a note on it somewhere asking the owner to get in touch...

The only other loop-frame mixte I am aware of is one in San Francisco belonging to 'Meligrosa'. She posts a lot on Flickr and refers to her mixte as "the Frenchie" so it may well be a Peugeot.

    Congrats again on yours, ummbnb!

Oh that bike is lovely! I'd definitely try leaving a note!

Meli's "Frenchie" is an Astra, if I'm not mistaken.

Hey saraspins! We picked up our little 24 incher yesterday afternoon. My son exclaimed, "It's a mixte! YES!" For reference on size, my little man is 51" tall.

    That bike looks very cool.

I saw an older guy riding down Rt. 2A this morning, on a mixte that looked like it was a perfect size for me. He was definitely too large for the bike. I thought he might be using it for transportation, but then I saw him riding back in the other direction, when I was done with my errands, guessing he was avoiding even the little rises on this road. He had on street clothes and no helmet, but he appeared to be "exercising."
I wanted to stop and offer him money, but that would have been weird. You guys are enablers.

"Swoopy" mixtes - a bit like buses?

... you wait for ages without a single one in sight, then along comes 3 at once!

Well, here is the update on the 1984 Nishiki.

It's better. The upright riding position makes it almost acceptable, but she still doesn't like the mixte frame. It's too high for a comfortable step-thru mount. She likes the deep step-through of the old fashioned Raleigh style.

She also considers the tires to be too thin for her taste. We're looking for a comfort bike, me thinks.

Sigh. This may have to be sold, but I'm gonna drag my feet as long as possible on this. It's not 531, but it's still sooooo sweet.
