Good friends & family read your own blogs?

Does anyone here have a blog that is sort of more work-related?

I know that Chile Pepper's ties in with her family's winery biz and mimi's for her paintings....

I will be creating a 3rd blog ---for a major event. So have been looking at specific features, etc.

Human imagination and how people visualize is just interesting!

Am I the only weird one here who thinks that no one would be particularly interested in the day to day stuff that goes on in my life?
My friends already humor me when I talk about my rides and I am pretty sure there is nothing else in my life that is that extraordinary in that people would want to read about it. I like to write, but I don't really have the urge to write about the mundane day to day of my life. And I can't write about my work...
No one in my family is on FB, except one son. The other one thinks national security will be breached if he goes on there, since he works in military intelligence.
I definitely would not want my family and friends to read about all that I am thinking or doing. It's easier to just talk about those evil thoughts with DH or close friends .

Crankin, no, you aren't the only one. Like you, I have friends who humor me when I talk about biking. It would be too much to ask them to read about it.

Some "everyday" blogs are interesting; a few people truly have a gift for communicating. I can see blogging for people with a large circle of friends or a large family. Neither applies to me.

I'm really in a quandary about Facebook. I do compartmentalize my life and friends, especially online friends. For whatever reason a lot of the friends I've made in dog internet groups are very conservative -- I don't want them to know what I think about a lot of things. But, Facebook is getting more and more "necessary" for dog rescue and a few other things.

ETA: I wonder about putting family things online. Not really judging it, because I'm an unusually private person. But some things I have seen make me question the wisdom of blithely chatting away about children, etc.

Yep, I have a small family, and I no longer speak to any of them, except my dad and brother. My dad has a computer, but can't really handle the mouse well, so if I email him pictures, I have to call him to tell him to go look! And, if you can believe it, my 46 year old brother does not have a computer (although he is computer literate). I have one friend here who posts on FB constantly and I do make plans with her through the FB instant messaging or email quite a bit. But the others, no... one is on constantly with whatever and the rest don't FB. I do keep up with one of my friends in AZ that way, and vicariously through her kids. A few of my younger acquaintances from grad school have "friended" me, and that's fine. But, I hardly ever post.
I compartmentalize my life a lot. That's how I stay sane! Plus, the only online friends I have are right here, on TE. Don't have time to handle any more than that.

This is why it took me a long time to even get myself to start up any blog: I had no interest in jotting down my daily stuff. Heck , I gave up a daily written journal because it was ..becoming dull to myself. Repetitive writing style, same ol' details. Even I was losing interest in myself.

So when I did figure out my focus and write more thematically. It made more sense and taps into a better writing style from myself.

For trips, I now take way too many photos. Digital method does create certain problems. So having a blog with occasional bits on travel highlights really forces me to be selective and not bore family, friends much (hopefully).

I know this sounds strange, but when I get truly sick/weak in the distant future, I have something still, for others who care about me to know of my best thoughts in writing and my decent visuals in photos. My family knows me. I used to write poetry and enter creative writing contests as a kid. And the art interest is still lying around latent, which is why I write/reflect on art in blog occasionally if I'm not actually doing art at this time. (Hmmmm. Yea that stash of beautiful acrylic paint tubes, brand new canvasses piled up in the closet.)

I felt this way when I started and I kept my blog private. I was really just writing to document our transition from a DINK couple to a sustainable farming one. When I found myself telling people all the same stories I'd already written about, I just started sharing the blog address. Then it blossomed. (and then it died...but that's a whole 'nother topic)

To be fair though, I didn't blog about typical mundane day to day stuff. I blogged about things that I thought others might find interesting or unusual. I'd never have done a post about surfing the internet, grocery shopping or doing laundry (unless perhaps I was doing my laundry on a washboard or in a stream or something! ).

GLC, I think sustainable farming is fascinating. I can see how your blog would be of great interest. A blog about me going to Trader Joe's would not have the same appeal.

We put up a web page about a single aspect of evacuating after 9/11 and (duh) it went pretty viral, which I never even thought of. My only objective was reaching the dozens of people who offered help. Nothing bad came of it, but it made me forever wary.
